I hope it happens, but I have a hard time believing they would build something like that render for only $6 million. Maybe double or triple that?

Yah it's going to cost alot more then that, hopefully other donors, fundraising and other levels of government come to the table:

Quote:
Chartrand said he was first asked in the 1990s to start lobbying for the development of a Métis museum.

"It's something we've been waiting for, for a long, long time," he said on Friday. "There's none like it nowhere else in the world."

A feasibility study and business plan was completed in 2005 and it was estimated at that time that the proposed 40,000-square-foot facility would cost a minimum of $20 million to build.

The hope at that time was to start construction by 2008 and locate it in Bonnycastle Park, near the corner of Assiniboine Avenue and Main Street.

At the time, however, city officials said they had not been approached about using the land at Bonnycastle Park.

Having a tall residential tower is ideal. That would be revenue and be able to have some retail like gift shop and cafe? This would be the interpretative centre planned or in addition to what Friends of Upper fort Garry envisioned? I would prefer it not be at Bonnycastle park .IMO...With the dog park there etc, the riverside should have clear views for all and buildings on the provincial park.

Putting it in Bonnycastle would be awful.

It's super out of character for me but I would definitely fight to save Bonnycastle park. It's unique in Winnipeg and absolutely gorgeous.

Definitely better than what they built in Upper Fort Gary. I recently walked past there and my daughter said it looks like a scrap yard

The sounds are disgusting too. It's like loud scraping of steel against steel most of the time.

Yeah and carting in some cut out rusted scrap metal and calling it something is such an improvement!

Walking through Upper Fort Garry park is a little difficult -- there is no access point to the park from the south side (Assiniboine Avenue).

*conspiracy theory voice*

i think that is intentional because they don't actually want the park to be used. the "friends of fort garry" is just a bunch of manitoba club assholes who don't want anything to happen to the view from their club

The design of the park makes that theory sound plausible which is the sad part.
