Was it just a rumour years ago that they were thinking of building a facility out by the airport? I think it was about then that some discussion about how the Post Office might be able to be repurpose started up on here.

The airport location makes a lot of sense, either that or just a random industrial location.

But man, I can't image that old post office will have much luck with redevelopment, unless someone can buy it for next to nothing.

For Canada Post, Grocery Store on main level with lofts and office on top?

Seems to be some large chunks available for development at YQR. Would be nice to get Canada Post out there. Also wondering what the large leased plot is going to be for top left.

It has large floor plates suitable for a Government tenant. It would be great to if that whole stretch could be re-purposed. Semi loading docks and delivery truck parking are not ideal for the heart of downtown.

I expect they will want to be adjacent to a Bypass interchange given that all the mail is now processed in Winnipeg.

Makes sense to get Canada Post out of downtown... most other cities have relocated mail processing facilities (Ottawa & Winnipeg).

Much of Winnipeg's former post office building downtown was quickly converted to a (federal) government office... wasn't an ideal use, without a significant (aka costly) retrofit. Men's & women's washrooms were on alternating floors (because Canada Post didn't need facilities for both genders when the building was built, apparently). Also, washrooms' locations didn't allow for required security to be applied conveniently... so there were odd security processes. Infrastructure was old too - so there were a lot of issues with installation of network cables/ electrical/ card swipes/ etc.

Other than the washrooms on alternating floors, tenants found the "viewing holes" in the floor/ceiling off-putting. These were in place - much like catwalks at casinos - to allow supervisors to observe staff in the processing centre (and other areas). Most were covered over during the quick retro-fit, but not all of them were... so you'd see large sheets of paper covering portions of the ceiling in certain areas.

The Winnipeg Police Service bought the build from Public Works & the federal tenants relocated elsewhere.

Thanks - I'm glad I wasn't the only one who couldn't see it - but there wasn't even a spot where it should've been when I looked at this series of posts (until this very last one). I have ad-blockers enabled... maybe that's a factor.

I just wondering if the Canada Post building move would be a part of the Railroad Revitilization project?

While moving it out certainly aligns with the overall RRI vision generically, it's never been included in the RRI plans - so I'd say it's not on the radar.

Unless anyone can find something that I missed, I didn't find any tenders out (MERX, BuyAndSell.gc.ca, CanadaPost.ca, etc) for any work relating to Canada Post in Regina. So, IF relocating the Regina facility is on Canada Post's plans, it isn't happening for a while.

Economic future in Regina looks bright
The November economic report for the city of Regina has been released.
The report, reviewing the stats from September and October, show an expanding economy in the Saskatchewan capital, highlighted by 1% employment increase and a 6.36% population increase from October 2015 to October 2016.
Mayor Michael Fougere says he’s very pleased with the report, as it’s indicative of the hard work council puts in to making Regina an attractive city for investors and families.
“The decisions that we make on council really are to provide confidence, understanding and predictability for those who want to invest.”
“It’s a great quality of life.”
Fougere also points out there are other statistics supporting economic growth in Regina, such as the 35% housing increase from September 2016 to this September
