That's a great roof deck. I remember seeing it in some old Ma & Pa Kettle movie when I was little (on TV). I hope they reopen it with the same kind of simplicity as in that photo.

I believe that the downton skyscrapers like 40 Wall St and 123 William St may closed their observation decks b/c of the taller 2 WTC, though I could be wrong about that.

I know some of the guys from Skyscrapers.com went up to the top of the Woolworth Building a few years ago and got some really nice pics. If you guys are out there maybe you could post one or two of those under an anonymous/faux user name.

Although I know skyscrapers.com has made its share of mistakes, it lists 1 Bryant Park as 960ft, meaning that the whole spire/antennae like pole is just an antennae, right?

Just looking for some info on that.

doesnt that number sound so solid? 960, not super-tall, but not any old mediocre height either. Just solid!

I'm usually one to not count spires. I've been thinking about it on an individual building basis. The glass wall extension on this building will not be a spire, and even though it will serve no fundamental purpose other than being ornamental, it will be a large enough addition to the structure of the building that it won't bother me too much. Yes, it will be an addition tacked onto the roof of the actual building, but it will be more than just a pole added purely for height. And it will also be a visible part of the structure that will add to the look of the midtown skyline.

It (the glass crown) may serve a perpose, like serving as a greenhouse possibly (isn't there going to be a garden up there, I think someone mentioned?). But hey, even if it didn't serve a perpose, it's no scrawny spire. It's as big as the rest of the building so I don't see why it shouldn't count.

It would be nice if visitors had the same nice dress code, to boot... but I guess that is too much to ask. But - it will be an exciting new place to visit in NYC, that's for sure. Why was the deck ever closed to begin with?

I still never understood why the original design was scrapped b/c I thought that it looked better compared to the current one.

And NYGUY will be happy to learn that the McDonald's has finally closed its doors. And as a fitting conclusion is being gutted and readied for demolition.

Very solid. This building will just be shy of overwhelming in my book. Personally I probably would consider 960 feet to be a supertall. I'm one of those people who says a supertall is anything over 900 feet.

Finally! Seems like the stars are lining up just right over New York City. The construction of 3 long awaited skyscrapers is now at hand (Freedom, Times, BOA). Three prominent towers that will change the NYC skyline forever. And we get to witness the births simultaneously.

And to think, a couple of years ago people thought skyscrapers "dead" in NYC....
