the site looks MUCH bigger depending on where you're standing... Like from Yonge/Gerard... the site looks huge! but from the air, the site actually isn't out of the ordinary... This building looks really BIG from the renders (chunky, tall)... either way, it's gonna be sweet!

excavating will take a while... by this time next year we'll be thinking about foundation work and moving up! (i would expect it to reach ground level in a little under 2 years.. 1 year for groundbreaking, 1 year to reach the surface)

correct me if i am wrong

If the site is twice as big as we thought, then this one will take a while to excavate, then coupled with the depths they'll have to dig to reach the foundation base...

This building will be a beast...

The site is so big that I would easily be willing to bet that it will be at least a year easy before this one even reaches street level. Anyway I'm just grateful to see that this project has finally commenced! In the meantime we can see how much soil and ground up shitty blacktop gets dug out at the site. Also, we can watch the other big hitters including Trump, Shangri-La, and the Four Seasons continue construction!

I'd say much more than a year... groundbreaking alone will take some time and considering how big the podium/retail space is, it should be some time...

Anyone suspect how many cranes we might see?... i would thing there would be 1 crane for the podium and 1 crane for the tower... then midway in construction they would remove the lower crane... i dunno ...

The overall site is large however, if they take a two step approach as in building up on side with a temporary ramp, remove the existing ramp and build up the other side it won't take as long to build up to grade.

In any case, I doubt it will take a full year to excavate the pit. Shangri-la didn't and this one isn't nearly as deep. They likely won't have to blast through shale either.

Fair enough

I just can't wait for this thing to go down then up! (that sounds really dirty for some reason !)

The final project will take a while though... we can expect 3-4 years for this one...

probably a year and a half till it reaches ground level!...

By then, Trump should be topped off, FS should also be topped off, and shangri-la could be topped off too!

You're right, but it was my understanding Ice was getting underway very soon (within a month or two).

Anybody have a rendering showing where this is in the skyline? I have a vague recollection of the mall location on Yonge, but it would be easier with a rendering or photoshop job...

from Maldive/3Dementia at SSP/UT (www.urbantoronto.ca)

This photo was posted on the front page of the National Post on the 19th of January - The article and and links are posted in the Toronto Development thread.

You can see the Aura Tower in the middle of the rendering, just to the north of the main cluster of downtown highrises.

it should be going really soon! (U condos will probably go in spring!)

Aura looks epic in that photoshop ^^^!

Great skyline balancer and adds some height to the area between Yorkville and the CBD!

Aura: Ok, This one has got to be my
favorite building under construction in
Toronto right now, it's just so massive,
Reminds me of the MLS sight in that it's
so huge. It will change the Toronto
skyline for ALL TIME!! Bringing the tall,
super tall buildings of the core North up
Yonge street, to Yorkville, with 1 Bloor
and Four Seasons. I hope this is the
beginning of a trend of more tall buildings
coming further up north on Yonge, to
really lengthen the East/West skyline,
with more authority. The only I'm not
sure about it that there are not many
empty lots around here for really tall
buildings, unless things get demo'd to
make room for taller and larger structures
here.

I agree ^^^

Yonge is such an important street in Toronto but doesn't have a whole lotta skyscrapers!

L tower, Aura, Number 1 bloor, Uptown, Crystal, FS, Casa, BSN, etc.. are all going in or around Yonge St. its sweet that we're building yonge again!

Ethervizion took another time lapse
sequence. This
one is from Feb. 2:
www.flickr.com/photos/ethervizion/
They've expanded the site. There's barely
a narrow walkway between the
construction site and College Park now,
and it comes very close to the skating rink
too.
