Gindi Heights, Ramat Gan, Israel
Kika Braz Architects completes new residential development in Israel

Gindi Heights comprises two residential buildings, each consisting of 30 floors, in the Tel Binyamin neighbourhood of Ramat Gan. The buildings stand perpendicular to one another and create a defined entrance space, with a mutual lobby on the ground floor. The perpendicular positioning of the adjacent corners of the building exposes the entire frontal view and brings forth a dialogue between the two types of frontal views; the actual front of the building and its side.

garmendia arquitectos: sports hall barakaldo

bilbao-based garmendia arquitectos have completed the 'sports hall barakaldo', a covered playing field within the salesian school in cruces, bizkaia, spain. the site's stepped terraces featured playgrounds at different heights, and within clear visibility from the town's main road. in addition to the common rain of basque country, a limited budget mandated an economical solution in the form of a 'hat' structure instead of a climate controlled building. the iconic and brightly colored canopy protects the playing field while creating an attractive view from all directions. a rectilinear volume is placed upon the uneven terrain and clad with a perforated with vertical metal panels with perforations to introduce natural daylight and breezes.

Compact and Green Apartment Building, City of Zhongshan, China
A green introduction to the local town in Southern China

This project's objective is to introduce the idea of 'compact green living' in a small remote town in the southern part of China through the creation of a straightforward response to the existing environment. The proposal suggests 'compact and green' living by focusing on the quality of spaces with natural light and the large communal space. The architect believes that simple human interaction contributes equally to the well-being of the inhabitants as to a well lit unit.

Highly sustainable mixed use complex in Indonesia presented by Atkins Global

The concept design of this mixed-use project by Atkins took inspiration from natural Indonesia and elements of architecture are reduced to minimal shapes and geometry creating harmony between buildings and landscape in a natural environment. The organic layout blends forms into each other producing a fluid combination of internal and external spaces promoting a healthy living and working environment. Sustainability was central throughout the design approach, as was the development’s contribution to South Jakarta’s public realm.

EXCLUSIVE PHOTOS: Utah Opens Its Striking New Natural History Museum in Salt Lake City
by Bridgette Meinhold, 01/12/12

The Utah Natural History Museum recently moved into its new home at the Rio Tinto Center at the base of the Wasatch Mountains in Salt Lake City, and we were on the scene to take a peek. Designed by Todd Schliemann and New York City-based Ennead Architects, the striking museum is home to dinosaurs, artifacts, fossils, animal specimens, minerals and much, much more. Made with copper mined locally from the other side of the city, the interactive museum and repository was built as a representation of the physical geography of Utah with its vast canyons, soaring mountains, and expansive plateaus.

Palmyra, Beau Bassin, Mauritius
Sanjay Puri Architects use innovative orientation to maximise protection from Mauritius' hot climate

Palmyra is a high density residential development in Mauritius where the client wanted to use 2,743.55 sq m on a plot of 12,346 sq m. Affronting a river with hills forming a backdrop on the north-east side, the apartments are planned in a manner that orientates most of them towards the north-east.

Planned in four wings, each with four apartments, this 18 level residential development skirts the south-east and south-west borders of the site creating a large landscaped garden on the north east corner overlooking the river. Protected from the southern sun throughout the year, the garden is effectively kept cool at all times.

House of Jazz in San Francisco
By: admin | January - 16 - 2012

This project designed by Surasuk Pattanapanitchakul at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco intends to illustrate the synthesis between nature, urban and architecture, which supports and collaborate to each other, showing the soul of interconnection which increasingly synthesize with the space, in order to show how architecture can act as an instrument.Traditionally, music defined as aural element expressed through time. architecture as instrument explores the idea of music as defined by visual expressed through time, specificially shadows cast as the sun traverse the sky visual representation of temporal experience-thecycle of the day.Structure as instrument explores the idea that the structure itself is an orchestra and the ever-changing and continual shadows that fall across it and beside it are music experience by users.

LTL Architects Transforms an Old Theater Into an Illuminated Art House
by Helen Morgan, 01/16/12

The illuminated exterior facade of the Austin Museum of Art (AMOA) Arthouse is as vibrant and interesting as the contemporary art that it exhibits within. Located in Austin, Texas, the AMOA-Arthouse is a brilliant renovation from LTL Architects -- the team who also wowed us back in October with their living wall office design. This time around the designers have converted a former theater, updating its original architecture with contemporary features. Situated at the Jones Center, the 160-year old space now houses an innovative art site within a textured white shell, speckled with translucent colored glass.
