I love the Norwood Tower. I sometimes wonder how it would have had an impact on the skyline had it been 20 floors taller.

Me too. No matter how nice the new buildings will look, this will always be in my top ten, maybe even top 5. It was one of the few tall-ish towers when I moved here so it stood out more. It still is more ornate than any other towers downtown. I wish we had more building like it. You can't really match the character of it in today's architecture, I mean you could, but nobody will.

Nice, this is going to be fun watching this building rise with the angled sections.

A similar video from DPR was recently posted about the Marriott and Block 71 construction. Here's a new one from DPR that is only about Block 71 construction.

Hopefully I'll have a lot more somewhat blurry street-level photos over the next few months

Block 71 will have a huge presence from the west, as seen here from the 360 Overlook. You can see the base of the tower on the left side of the skyline.

Not that it's feasible, but I'd love to see a shot from the roof of that house on the left...

The house next to it (would be hidden and to the left in the photo) is the one with the literal million dollar view.
Check out 6304 Ayres Dr on satellite or Google Earth.

And 4 houses down on the same street is available for vacation rentals. Lots of photos and a VR walk-through on the website.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it! It was an awkward shoot. It was 5am and there was a car next to me with a couple in there and the windows fogged up while I'm standing there taking photos, hahaha.

This is going to have an amazing skyline presence once complete.

Aside from the molar building, the one parking lot along with the ones at 3rd and Congress really need to be developed. Seems like these lots should have been some of the first ones to go. Hopefully whatever goes on that lot will block it's neighbor at least from the east.

Taxpayer-funded TRS won’t say how much it’s spending on office space

By Bob Sechler

Updated Sep 6, 2019 at 9:21 PM

When construction of what will be the tallest office tower in downtown Austin is finished in 2021, the taxpayer-funded state agency charged with overseeing retirement benefits for about 1.6 million Texas teachers and school employees will be among the first tenants moving in.

But the cost to taxpayers for the high-profile office space isn’t publicly known, because the Teacher Retirement System of Texas has been successful so far in its legal effort to withhold the information from the American-Statesman and keep secret how much it has agreed to pay for the estimated 100,000 square feet it has leased there.

Advocates for government transparency contend such a basic detail about a state agency’s operations — how much it pays in office rent — is fundamental public information that taxpayers have a right to know.

Just hit the escape key a few times while the page is loading. It's easy to bypass the Statesman's paywall.
