Back at the Hydro hq open house many years back I made a similar comment to one of the people running it and in the know on that project. Apparently the Bay parkade was heavily over engineered for extreme conditions and despite exterior looks it would likely continue to have structural integrity that would outlive most of us. My best guess is that it has heavy amounts of rebar holding it all together, likely to the point the core structure is actually steel with a concrete skin but that is just my speculation. Short of us getting a time machine and helping Hydro pick the right site I got a sad feeling the Bay parade is a permanent fixture.

The PSB parkade you can actually see places where the concrete posts are crumbling and the steel poles inside of them are rusted out. It's bad. I actually can't believe they won't just demolish it now and at least just put grass there in the mean time or something.

Even if they've completely transitioned out of the PSB (which I'm not sure about), a lot of other civic staff will probably keep using that facility until it's redeveloped.

Not yet, It was a 7 month process when announced last year, as mentioned Civic employees are using it until a decision is made on it's eventual fate, likey long after the WPS have vacated this year.

Interesting how the PSB topic is wandering from thread to thread..lol the Graham WPS thread or Construction has more in depth discussions reg: it's eventual fate.

Edit: I believe there still is landscaping and some minor work to still be completed on RBCCC, March was their target date but it is functional in every other aspect..

Sorry for the thread drift, I just think that the PSB and civic parkade, in their current states, are two of the biggest eyesores in downtown.

I agree, It's going to be a lengthy discussion with huge ramifications going into the future, the West Exchange has a lot riding on the outcome of those..structures..

On the point of the LED lighting, it does look cool and I really like it, the only thing is that the area under the overpass and the main entrances is so well lit now they lose their effect. Good problems I guess haha. It is substantially more inviting with the brighter lights now. It was so dreary walking in there before. I wish the blue light ribbons that came down from the glass and under the walkway from the renders happened though.

Pretty sure when the civic parkade closed any non police use of the underground parking also ended as the police needed far more than their available underground space for operational needs. Even if it had not already made the transition it is easier to move civic employees than it is police operational needs.

Some panels could have been a different color; would have been a fun design, and brightened up that stretch of Portage, which is quite dreary.

Or at the very least, different shades of the primary colour of the exterior. Make it a nightmare for those who have OCD.

Definitely noticed the delegates walking around downtown (identifiable by their badges). It might be a common sight in bigger cities but it's rare to see so many of them around here.

So is this ever going to happen with RBCCC, or is all of their reno work completely finished now? I'd love to see the second floor open up a bit to the street as shown in ye olde rendering:

I thought the original part of the RBCCCCC was going to get, at least, an interior makeover as well. But maybe that ending up getting cancelled.
