Decaying is vastly different than a stable economy.

Austin officially now has a new 2nd tallest. The last section of the spire was put into place sometime recently. You can tell this was the last piece because it's the one with the aircraft warning light on top of it.

They've been testing the color changing LEDs inside the mechanical screen on the building for the past week or so and just recently had almost all of them on.

Video showing them using the crane to assemble the spire base sections before the scaffolding went up to complete the rest.

I was able to view the building elevations for the original 50-story version of the hotel, but the design changed and the new elevations were never posted to the city's website. Last night I happened to be looking at building permits and noticed they had posted the elevations for the current design.

There also had been some discrepancy in the local media about the overall height with the spire. The architects and developers both told me 595 feet, but the media kept reporting 590 feet. The building elevations show it at 595 feet. Also, they told me the mechanical screen height is 456 feet and the main roof height was 420 feet. The building elevations show the mechanical screen height at to be 452 feet. I was able to measure the building in Google Earth using the ground level sea level elevation they used, and the mechanical screen height did come up as 456 feet, but only because I measured from the lowest sea level elevation on the building's property. That gave me a gain of 6 feet compared to the main roof height they told me. So, the main roof height I came up with was 426 feet. That also added 6 feet to the overall height for a total of 601 feet to the spire when measured from the middle of the building on the east side of the building.

Anyway, they posted the elevations, which is the first time I've seen the plans for the current design.

The new elevation files are 032(1) and 033(1).
