CLEVELAND | The Beacon (515 Euclid) | 338 FT | 28 FLOORS

The proposal for an apartment tower to cap the parking garage built in 2005 is being resurrected. No official rendering, but the massing model shows about 20 floors:

Beacon apartment tower planned atop 515 Euclid garage in downtown Cleveland

Quote:
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Stark Enterprises is seeking initial design approval for a high-rise apartment tower on Euclid Avenue, with hopes of starting construction late this year.

The building, called the Beacon, would include 19 floors of apartments perched atop the existing seven-story 515 Euclid parking garage.

A presentation submitted to the Cleveland City Planning Commission shows a metal-paneled tower with an ombré bronze-and-copper façade, perforated by windows and punctuated by a single ring of recessed balconies a few floors from the top. The garage would be modified with metal cladding, to match the new construction.

Not a great design, but I still want this to be built. The more projects we get in Cleveland, the more developers will be interested in developing here.

Beacon apartment tower in downtown Cleveland gets second round of design OKs

Sept 16, 2016

Quote:
A planned residential tower on Euclid Avenue won its second set of design approvals this week, taking another step toward a late-2016 construction start.

The Cleveland City Planning Commission gave a thumbs-up Friday to more fleshed-out images of the Beacon, a 19-floor apartment building that will sit above the existing 515 Euclid Ave. parking garage. On Thursday, a design-review committee dedicated to the downtown area also gave its nod to the project team's request for schematic approval.

Stark Enterprises aims to begin site work late this year or early next and to open the 187-unit apartment building in spring 2018.

a sign for this one went up in the current 515 euclid parking garage ground floor windows recently, so that is a bit of hopeful news.

According to their final submission to the City of Cleveland design review committee, they've toned down the color scheme on the facade.

That's interesting. Sort of a modern twist on old facade designs.

Glad to see the project moving forward, but why on earth would you design the building to look NOTHING like the parking garage below? Cleveland has tons of parking garages and this one actually looked nice in how it was designed on the outside. And instead of playing off that design or fusing it up along the new building, they just cut it off and use "post office beige" as their inspiration.

I want this built, but man is it ugly. Developer missed a great opportunity.

^ well i certainly i don't think it's important to match the building to a 1990s glass paneled parking garage, but i know what you mean about the looks of it. it's just renders, i would withhold judgement until it starts to go up and we see the cladding and all.

^I think technically once we have the first signs of structural steel going up, the thread can be moved. One thing though for the Mods - can we update the height to 355'?

I'll try to find an updated stacking plan - my understanding is they reworked the top utility penthouse and made some other tweaks.

In the meantime, the tower crane is up and ready to get this thing going - think we can move to officially under construction
