has there been any closings yet? It will be interesting to see how much JDS and co. can recupe after all the problems during construction and with a market that still hasn't quite fully recovered.

Strangely emotional to see this one in the completed section of the forum. Up to now, this tower was one of only two remaining projects that has been in the proposed and then U/C sections for the entire time ive known this forum. It's a small end-of-my-childhood moment. I was 14 when i found SSP, and im now 24. Checking the forum every day or so and getting updates on this building was a staple of my adolescence. Ditto for CPT, 432 Park, Tower Verre, Hudson Yards, Manhattan West, and Vandy. Now only CPT remains.

The building is served by elevators all the way to the top. It is narrow, but its wider than it looks in pictures

There are no escalators, elevators or stairs. All residents are kindly asked to scale the building Spiderman-style.

as we say in nyc ...

COME ON MAN, DON'T MAKE ME TELL YOU THAT!!!!

but seriously to answer your question -- via our friend wiki:

111 West 57th Street contains fourteen elevators: five in Steinway Hall and nine in the tower. Seven of the tower elevators are within individual suites, while the remaining seven elevators are shared by all residents. Steinway Hall had initially contained six elevators, one of which was upgraded as part of the residential project.

^ it's not a mall, it's a residential building. i believe the beautiful old steinway piano shop will be a foyer. i dk about any small streetside retail. i don't think so.

maybe you are confusing this building with the nearby central park tower that has nordstrom department store?

The building has multilevel retail at the base (three floors of retail, I believe?), and I'm pretty sure the retail space includes escalators.

All the retail space is in the historic portion, not the new tower.

A multilevel retail space with escalators will also have elevators. It's federal law.

So the 111W57 retail will have escalators and elevators.
