The China World Trade Center (CWTC) development in Beijing is a large long-term project in the heart of Beijing’s Central Business District (CBD).

For Phase Three, a new tower is being erected that will become the tallest building in Beijing at 330m. It will feature office accommodation, a five-star hotel at the top of the building, as well as retail and entertainment venues.

Yep, architecture by SOM. Just checked their site, their info is slightly different from ARUP's (always nice to have the architects and engineers not talk to eachother!)

Nice building, it´s something between US 7 and factory funnel. So, 73 or 85 floors? Currently status is about 55

Kinda looks like the chinese version of the World Trade Center in New York.

Just took some photos during my lunch break, amazing day today (there are only a few real blue sky days a year in Beijing)!

Here are some of the surroundings- I think the renderings tend to 'forget' about a lot of buildings that are actually already there, or are still u/c. I don't think it will 'stick out' as much as the renderings suggest:

My favorite thing about this design are the undulating corners. Viewed from afar, it gives a very subtle pagoda effect as the tower tapers up. You can see it in the first renders from cwtc.com. It's a way of injecting a cultural reference into a very modern tower without being overt about it (re: Taipei 101).

This tower is looking very nice. I really like the windows at the corners. This building does not seem to want to intimidate its surroundings. It seems to fit in quite nicely.
