Going to be a huge week for Orlando with 2 BIG announcements on the development front. Both projects have the opportunity to move the urban needle for the City in a big way.
One announcement will bring high paying tech/hq jobs into the urban core and the other has the potential to bring world class architecture to another urban area of the city. Very exciting announcements.
National Pulse Memorial and Museum Design Finalist
On June 12, 2016 tragedy struck Orlando at the Pulse Night Club. An international design competition has been initiated to remember the 49 lives that were taken, their families, the 67 injured victims and all the affected survivors. This memorial and museum will be designed to honor, remember, engage and educate.
6 Design and Architectural firms from around the world have submitted the concept designs for the Memorial and Museum. The One Pulse Foundation will select the winning team on October 30, 2019.
Electronic Arts has announced that they will move their headquarters to downtown/creative village from the north suburbs. This is a big win for the urban area.
Downtown Orlando hosts an annual art festival called Immerse. This years festival included a walk through art exhibit from Architects of Air out of England. Pretty cool experience.
Here is a full walk through if you are interested.
Also here is their website if you would like to see where the exhibit is going too. www.architects-of-air.com
If you haven't already watched it. Here is the full POV of the new Rise of the Resistance. This truly take the theme park ride concept to a whole new level. It is truly immerse. Disney has a massive hit on their hands.
Here is a look at the MASSIVE new $4.2 Billion Orlando International Airport South Terminal and Intermodal Transit Center. It will open in 2020 and allow the 10 busiest airport in the US to add another 11 million passengers. This will also be the location for the new Virgin High speed rail line from Miami and additional transit rail service in Orlando.
I would like to say sorry for taking so long to get an updated construction tour of downtown Orlando. Life has been a little crazy, as it has been for most. With that said downtown Orlando continues to move forward on numerous new projects and towers. Hope you enjoy the update video.
Thought some might be interesting in taking a look at the now closed historic Bob Carr Theater. It is located downtown in the Creative Village area and is planned to be updated for a new use in the future.
I will be also doing a downtown construction update video in the next week or so.
Several projects have been completed since my last downtown construction video. Several more are nearing completion and some new ones have broken ground.
Creative Village continues to be a hot spot for development. With new residential mixed use projects, the Luminary Green urban park (opening this spring) and the new offices for Electronic Arts (opening in about a month).
Their are at least 2 more towers that should break ground by summer. I will add a new video once that happens.
Hope you enjoy.
