Demolishing Penn Station was almost criminal IMO. And that Pabst building in Milwaukee was very beautiful, stately, and unique looking..how could they have destroyed it???? It almost looks like a castle in that pic. What a shame.

wasn't Pabst actually structurally unsound? otherwise it would've been saved?

The facade was built far too heavy. It had to be stripped of decorative, ornamental elements decades before its demolition, which was underwent because it was still too heavy.

Perhaps when building and/or designing the building Pabst had sponsered one too many lunches and refreshments.

Fort Worth has had its fair share of tragic architectural losses, but this one is the worst IMHO.

The Medical Arts Building sat at the western end of Burnett Park, a smallish but lovely pocket of greenspace on the west side of downtown Fort Worth. It was a beloved landmark.

It was demolished in the '70s to build this awful thing - Burnett Plaza:

Runner up would be the loss of the Aviation Building, a gorgeous Art Deco tower at 7th & Main. The building's upper floors:

Demolished in the '70s to build this lovely thing, Carter + Burgess Plaza:

First of all don't make the img in capital letters, and second of all you need to upload them to an image host like webshots or flickr for example.

Landmark

Some may dispute whether the Landmark was a great piece of architecture or not but I doubt anyone would rather see a parking lot.

^^ To be fair, the "parking lot" is also the outdoor exhibition space for the convention center.

Some have been lost just this year. The historic Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles.

The famous Coconut Grove night club in the Ambasador hotel.

and across the street, the Brown Derby Restaurant. Maybe not beautiful but an internationally recognized landmark.

Some other losses. The Richfield building

Kansas City

Old City Hall

Old Courthouse

Tornado Damage

As well as its replacement

There used to be blocks of rowhouses like this. Ony a couple remain, sans most of the ornamentation.

And one we're about to loose, the Opera House

Converted to a parking garage and now slated for demolition.

the 50's, 60's and 70's will forever be the dark ages in architectural history.

More Chicago

Paradise Theater

Think this times hundreds more its' size and that gives you an idea of how much beautiful movie palace architecture we've wrecked in this land of ours.

Masonic Temple

For reference, this is what stood on the sight of the Walgreens at State and Randolph, the current construction site of the condominium MoMo.

Columbus Memorial Building

Columbian Exposition of 1893

While it couldn't be saved for obvious reasons, it still is a loss, and must have been a sight to behold.

Chicago & Northwestern Station

A real tragedy.
