The links upthread suggest that Darrel Clarke blocked it at the zoning review.
[same as the project at 9th & Poplar. Some NIMBY's have more clout]

Makes no damn sense. They should be seeing the bigger picture of building the city's tax base, at a minimum.

Do you suppose it might bring in residents that would not vote for him?

Dunno. Not my intent to get into a political discussion. But, I think he's pandering to a majority of his constituents that keeps him in office.

It would seem to make sense that concentrating Temple students around the campus might reduce the sprawl of smaller scale development out into the surrounding neighborhoods. Ie. building a few large buildings along Broad should lessen the "gentrification" pressures that existing residents are concerned about. Or am I missing something?

No. I think you are making a really good point actually.

I think Darrell Clarke killed it's current iteration. We'll keep the thread for a little to see if this comes back in any form.

I hope it's not true, after all I feel it's an amazing proposal and greatly needed for Temple.

he usually does not oppose stuff on Broad Street or on temple's campus. I doubt he intends to thwart this project.

I never thought it was. Just because there was some delay due to negotiations or questions from Clarke's office didn't mean it was in danger.

This was "held 30 days pending Council letter."

Someone care to put it in English?

Just an educated guess, but maybe they asked the Councilmember whose district this property is in (Clarke?) for a letter of support and are waiting to hear back.
