I like this shot, it's from a perspective you don't always see. I'm trying to use my imagination to figure out what a completed Hydro building would look like in that pict.

I estimate next year we could have 5 more tower cranes downtown - here are my estimates for number of potential cranes:

1 or 2 - Museum
1 - Lakeview Hotel
1 - 100 Main Apartment
1 - Sky Waterfront (tower crane?)
1 - Boutique Hotel on Assiniboine (Ernie Walter)

Not really downtown but happening next year:
1 - SIAM at HSC
1 - Canad Inn at HSC
1 - Tecumseh St Parkade
4 - already at the Water Treatment Plant
1 - Sheraton @ Airport (7 storeys - tower crane?)
2 or 3 - new terminal

I don't know about the rest of you but I think that when it comes to developments in Winnipeg there should be a ban on making any announcements until the deal to build has been sealed. It gets so tiring to be fired up about something like the original CanWest proposal (Media Centre) only to find out that they're going to build a park instead. We then start to look forward to a 35 storey tower at 100 Main only to find out that a 15 storey complex is chosen instead (and that there is a group opposing that as well so that another park can be built). Maybe alongside the SkyscraperPage Forum there should be a link to ParksUnlimitedPage strickly for Winnipeg postings.

Sigh - I know what you mean, it gets very demoralizing getting all excited over an anouncement only to have it go nowhere or be cut back drastically. It happens in Calgary all the time too (happens everywhere I imagine). I guess we have to take these proposals with a grain of salt until they have more substance.

Thanks Biff and 1ajs for the construction info - I really hope you guys get that "new tallest" . . . and a few others to boot. I'll be watching.

That's exactly how I feel.
