The newest member of San Antonio’s billionaire’s club is ready to open his wallet over downtown.

Rackspace Hosting Inc. founder and chairman Graham Weston says he will forge partnerships with a dozen or more real estate developers over the next two years to further develop the city center into a livable, walkable urban environment that will attract and retain young professionals.

Weston, who owns downtown’s Weston Centre, says his plan — which he’ll unveil within the next six months — will involve “philanthropic capitalism” akin to Pace Foods billionaire Kit Goldsbury’s Pearl Brewery redevelopment or the Bass Brothers’ revitalization of ...

Not going to lie, the green men made me laugh.

This is very exciting. Can't wait to see what this "plan" has in store for SA.

Recent interview w/ Weston.
http://www.siliconhillsnews.com/2012...silicon-hills/
He talks about Geekdom (which is in Weston Centre) and how he hopes this will help w/ DT. I'm sure this is not his ONLY plan for DT, but he does talk (vaguely) about why SA needs a strong urban cores at about 13:40 on the video.
He talks about teaming up with local real estate developers so I'm sure part of his plan is to kickstart some projects might otherwise have problems breaking ground (something that would've helped with the delays 1221 and 1800 saw over the past few years.

Graham Weston to support symphony

Posted on 06/06/2012 by David Hendricks

San Antonio billionaire and Rackspace Hosting Inc. Chairman Graham Weston on Wednesday held a press conference to announce a gift to the San Antonio Symphony.
But he gave no amount.

“I’m just not ready to do that yet,” Weston said. He did say his personal gift will be phased in over three years, starting with the 2012-13 season.

Even symphony officials don’t know the amount yet. Weston hinted at a goal of helping to assure the financially struggling symphony survives until it moves to the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, which is under construction, from the symphony’s current Majestic Theatre home.
