UPDATE: Boise GreenBike Director Responds to LimeBike Presentation Before City Council
By Harrison Berry

Quote:
What cruises on two wheels, is available to all comers and could be rolling into town? LimeBike, a "dockless" bike-share company, is set to deliver a presentation to the Boise City Council May 15 during its regularly scheduled Tuesday work session meeting.

Quote:
Should LimeBike rides hit Boise's streets, they would likely be competitive with the Boise GreenBike program, which is a division of Valley Regional Transit. Its director, Dave Fotsch, could not be reached for comment.
Quote:
Boise GreenBike Director Dave Fotsch expressed skepticism following a presentation before the Boise City Council from a possible competing bike-share program, LimeBike, during a May 15 work session at Boise City Hall.

“This is certainly going to present significant challenges to us if they’re allowed to operate in this market,” Fotsch said.

Over the last several years, Boise GreenBike has cultivated community partners such as the Ada County Highway District and the City of Boise, and sponsors like St. Luke's and SelectHealth, to deploy more than 120 bikes in the downtown core, but a purchase order and a donation from a sister program will more than double the size of its fleet by year's end and allow GreenBike to expand into the Boise State University neighborhood.

I went to go book a trip this in spring and I've noticed after the first week of March; Alaska will no longer serve Salt Lake City from Boise. I looked into the summer and it is gone. Delta will go back to being the only carrier on the route with six flights a day.

Group wants to get transportation on track
Quote:
The acronym for the Association of Oregon Rail and Transit Activists is AORTA. And like the artery it shares a name with, the organization is hoping to pump new blood into Eastern Oregon’s defunct passenger rail system.
Quote:
The association wants to revive a shorter version of the Pioneer line, which would span from Portland to Boise and include stops in Pendleton, Hinkle, La Grande, Baker City, Ontario, The Dalles and Hood River.

I would take a train to Portland if it was available. On a side note has anyone heard anything about the downtown circulator? It's been awhile.

Unfortunately, this is a real pipe dream. This rail line would be of little benefit to those in Portland or Boise when there are 7-8 flights a day between each city. Train fares would have to be really low to encourage people to use a train versus their own cars or purchasing an airfare. In California, a similar distance is still about $60 on Amtrak for an advanced fare. Not a great value considering how much longer a train ride is compared to driving or flying. And it isn’t an eight hour drive between Boise and Portland as quoted in that article. So some train enthusiasts and rural Oregonians aren’t going to keep a rail line going. Just being realistic...

More cause for Downtown drivers to ditch their cars — this street may get bike lanes

Quote:
A new plan for 8th Street in Downtown Boise would add bike lanes and reduce car lanes from Bannock to State streets.

The proposal from Boise’s urban renewal agency would extend the pedestrian-friendly street concept that now covers two blocks from The Grove Plaza north to Bannock by two more blocks north to State Street

Quote:
It would add a southbound bike-only lane buffered from the northbound lane by an elevated bike curb.

Boise approves funding toward wildlife bridge on Hwy 21

https://bloximages.chicago2.vip.town...size=750%2C514

A car drives along Highway 21 as a pair of fishermen cast their lines on the Boise River below, Monday, Nov. 5, 2018. Boise Parks and Recreation has earmarked a sliver of the foothills levy revenue to be used for projects to improve the environment, including adding a series of paths and bridges in a 20-acre area along the river near Warms Springs Avenue.

Quote:
BOISE — A new bridge will be coming to Highway 21 in the Boise foothills, but it won’t be for cars.

On Tuesday, Boise City Council unanimously approved the use of $40,000 of Open Space and Clean Water Levy funds approved by voters in 2015 to help fund the construction of a wildlife bridge to help animals cross Highway 21 safely.

big news yesterday in Boisedev as well as the Statesman and Press about the Boise Airport expansion, which could see completion of the new concourse within the next 5 years.

will be great to see it come to fruition... but a pain to have the airport under construction for the next few years.

“Concourse A will make room for six additional gates, half of which will be used for regional jets, and the other half will be used for mainliners – the aircraft that are holding upwards of 170 to 200 passengers,” says Sean Briggs, the marketing manager for the Boise Airport.

Boise Airport is set to get bigger, with more gates and expanded parking

As soon as five years from now, air travelers may see something new on their tickets from Boise Airport: Concourse A.

Rebecca Hupp, airport director for BOI, shared plans for the new concourse — a new wing off the main terminal with new gates and amenities — with the Boise City Council on Tuesday.

The concourse would jut out from the right side of the airport as you walk into the main terminal. The existing B concourse juts out from the left side, and the C concourse extends from the back.

The new concourse would be designed to handle the increasingly large jets that airlines are moving toward, Hupp said. A drawing she displayed showed spaces for six new jets, with possible future expansions that could accommodate more.

It would have larger departure lounge areas than Concourse B, too. It would include retail and food outlets.

'We're in the process of reinventing ourselves': Boise GreenBike program looking to boost ridership

The program is looking to expand from its lineup of 127 pedal-powered bikes to 500 e-bikes by next spring.

Quote:
The Boise GreenBike program is looking to change things up a bit. They want to completely start over and change from pedal-only to electric bicycles, also known as e-bikes.

Not only does the director of the program, Dave Fotsch, want to change to e-bikes, he also wants to more than triple the number of bikes that are available, going from the current 127 pedal-only bikes to 500 e-bikes.

Quote:
There is another issue with their current bikes: the technology that allows riders to operate them - a keypad for locking and tracking the bike - will soon become defunct.

“Our vendor decided not to support the existing controller on the bikes,” Fotsch said. "So that system operates on the 2G and 3G network, and those are being retired by the cell phone companies.”

Their vendor isn't upgrading it, which is forcing the change.

Some airlines are increasing their mainline flights as well. Delta is going 4x mainline on BOI-SLC with a total of six flights daily during the summer. Alaska is going 4x mainline on BOI-SEA for a total of 11x daily over the summer. If this trend continues they will need to fast track the A concourse.

Boise is an amazing biking town considering the hundreds of miles of trails minutes from downtown that traverse the Foothills, the continued efforts by the city and ACHD by adding more cycling lanes on the surface streets, the trails in the Ponderosa forests up at Bogus and of course the Greenbelt which is The river path that sets the standards for other similar trails/greenbelts.
