tunnels are good if you are going under a downtown or something but might as well have a cheap airobus in the suburbs that goes the same speed as a boring tunnel.

Boring Company raises additional $675 million as investors chuck money into holes in the ground

https://www.theverge.com/2022/4/21/2...otal-vaulation

Quote:
.....

- The Boring Company has raised a new round of funding worth $675 million, with Elon Musk’s grand plan to “solve traffic” with tunnels now valued at $5.675 billion. — So far, The Boring Company has built just two operational 0.8-mile tunnels underneath the Las Vegas Convention Center, as well as 1.1-mile test tunnel in Hawthorne, California. The company has been pitching its services far and wide, and although many projects have run aground. — Originally, Musk said the company’s tunnels would use autonomous sleds to carry cars and specially-designed pods at speeds of up 150mph to transport pedestrians and cyclists. So far, they’re currently limited to electric vehicles (Teslas) driven by human employees at around 50mph and carrying ticketed passengers.

- The company’s Las Vegas tunnels have been open for a few years now, and first-hand impressions have been mixed to say the least. When everything goes to plan, the company’s tunnels let cars pass through them at sedate speeds. But when they’re busy they also create their own traffic jams, the very problem they’re intended to solve. — Investors, though, don’t necessarily care whether or not founders like Musk ultimately follow through on their hyperbole, only that the companies they run attract enough customers and revenue to pay back their own investments. And Musk has proved, time and time again, that’s he’s very good at pushing up share prices and valuations. For the meantime, that means The Boring Company has a lot of tunnels left to dig.

More B.S. from the greatest huckster of our age.

HTML Code:
The main applications of TBC’s tunnels have been “Loops”, which are [B]similar[/B] to the Hyperloop without the low-pressure environment.
No, they're not similar in the slightest.

China plans Shanghai hyperloop “by 2035”

https://www.globalconstructionreview...rloop-by-2035/

Quote:
.....

- China has become the first country to set out a construction programme for a hyperloop, the vacuum-tube maglev system that would theoretically allow trains to travel at up to 1,000 km/h. The plan is to build a link between Shanghai and Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province, 175km to the south. --- The paper quotes an article published in the Chinese language journal Railway Standard Design last week. According to that piece, the Chinese Academy of Engineering chose the two cities after carrying out a “comprehensive assessment” of candidate cities.

The longer this thread exists the more hilariously preposterous its title becomes.

Elon should focus more on making sure his rockets don’t explode and scatter debris for miles.

Dan Synder and Elon Musk are perfect for each other— two jackasses. I am glad Dan Synder is selling the Washington Foreskins.

The Boring Company will dig a 68-mile tunnel network under Las Vegas

https://arstechnica.com/cars/2023/08...der-las-vegas/

Quote:
.....

- Last month, the Las Vegas City Council voted unanimously to approve the Boring Company's plan to dig more tunnels under the city, following in the steps of Clark County, which in May gave a similar thumbs-up to the tunneling concern. The company's plan calls for 68 miles of tunnels and 81 stations, served by a fleet of Tesla electric vehicles, each able to carry three passengers at a time. --- Despite the unanimous approval, Mayor Carolyn Goldman had a litany of concerns, including safety, low throughput of passengers, and a lack of accessibility. However, she said that "hotels are begging for transportation options."

What is the point of this? How is it cheaper to build a bunch of tunnels and use low capacity cars, as opposed to just adding car capacity at surface level (or better yet, transit, but that's a dirty word in Muskland).

Vegas would be so much cooler with light rail running a combination of underground, at-grade, and above ground (whatever makes sense at each section). Elon can even use his “cheaper” boring machines! I believe however, this is more for show show. Thank God Fort Lauderdale canceled the silly plan here.

I've never ridden in a Tesla car and have no desire to. But many people will experience riding one on this "ride" in Las Vegas.

With the recent Reuter's article and the new class action lawsuit against Tesla, we are seeing very clearly how grand Elon Musk's transportation vision is. And of course, we have seen he has grand visions more many other aspects of society, including vaccines.
