In WPG_guys post. The first image with the Evergreen towers. Is that new, 7-9 storey building in the foreground the one the neighbourhood had issue with? That it didn't fit? Shit it fits perfectly. Like I said back when they took issue.

Yeah. With 30 storey towers 100m away, there should be no reason anything under 30 storeys doesn't get approved.

It's crazy how much the RBC building and 300 Assiniboine stand out at night. I really hope more buildings start lighting them up beyond the podium.

That photo also reveals a line of new and newer buildings south of Ellice compared to the many heritage buildings to the north in the Exchange.

Also makes me sad that SkyCity failed. It would of help to close the gap between P&M and TNS......and be Winnipeg's tallest by a long shot.

Yeah it's a shame it failed. If someone more reputable had had the idea they probably could have pulled it off. I'm sure that there is at least some degree of interest to own a condo in the tallest building. It would probably do fairly well if you could make the numbers offset the construction cost.

^ Yeah, we have been lucky to get a few new towers over the last decade, but none of them have really had a major impact. SkyCity would have been a game changer... sigh.

I wonder what the prospects are for the remaining lots along Graham?

I wouldn't doubt if someone out there is kicking the tires, seeing as there is so much new construction at either end. I think fortress is holding on to the empty lot they were planning on building Sky City on, but the other lot may be available to someone??

Graham has so much potential to become the "happening" strip in downtown.

The lot west of 300 Main has been purchased by Artis REIT. There are plans to develop that lot.

Nice! I wonder if it's something to compliment 300 Main? Whatever it is, not having two large empty lots side-by-side on Graham will be great for the entire downtown, not just Graham. I think there will probably always be some surface lots, but if they are isolated and far apart, their negative effect will be greatly reduced.

Next year when the Garry streetscaping and bike lane is all done, it's going to be ripe for more development. north of the two big empty lots, it's quite a nice streetscape. A development at this lot across from 300 like something similar to Centrepoint with CRUs all around would be huge for Garry. It would really help build it up as the street connecting Downtown to Exchange.

Once TNS is done (plus whatever happens with Portage Place), Hargrave and Carlton should be redone as well, as key links connecting west Downtown with East Alexander – could actually make development on Hargrave and Carlton/Ellen north of Ellice a lot more intriguing.
