Lightbulb HOUSTON | Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Building | FT | 12 FLOORS

The actual name for this one is "Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Building for Personalized Cancer Care". It's been u/c for a while now in the TMC.

Man, the medical center has been booming over the last few years. And the buildings are huge. I guess hospitals prefer to have large floorplates.

Not bad! That's a nice looking city that I could really see myself enjoying getting socially repressed in!

When they named it they must have been inspired by the "Derek Zoolander Center For Kids Who Can't Read Good and Also Want to Learn to Do Other Stuff Good Too".

Good to see it, since hints are being dropped that the Med Center won't see anything new for a while.

Not sure what you mean by socially repressed. Remember that the inner city is pretty liberal and very funky, and the city voted Democratic in the last presidential election (I think the same in 2008). Also has an openly lesbian mayor.

That medical center is a city in itself, and very busy with light rail and a lot of pedestrian activity. I love flying into Hobby airport, where if you're on the right side of the plane, you catch a view of Uptown, Greenway, Rice Univ and the med center along the landing trajectory. It's quite a view.

I think she has demonstrated that a lesbian mayor can be very good for business. She's certainly done a lot to put the city on the global map.

That's good to know. Seems like Houston has had some pretty good mayors in recent history. At least that's what my family in Houston tells me (they're in West U).

Yeah, it wasn't always that way. The City Fathers got enlightened after Louie Welch left office in the '70s.
