I don't know man. Beats having to shell out $90 million to get out of a bad deal to offload Austin's south terminal.

Ain't that the truth. Not sure who got the idea that 30 year leases for ANYTHING that's run by a governmental entity was a good idea, but should never be done.

That had to be the most ignorant contract I ever read. The initial idea was good - add gates on someone else's dime. However, knowing they needed the space (eventually) for concourse expansions, why on earth did the city not have any type of exit clause included in the agreement.

Well, I guess they'll just look at it as a ~2% cost overrun for the overall expansion of ABIA.

SAT just posted on their Insta that this Spring Break broke both the busiest day record as well as the busiest Spring Break record. 41,632 PAX on March 8 and 347,140 (up 10% from 2023) PAX March 8-17. For reference, the busiest March for SAT was in 2019 with just over 900,000 passengers. Solid chance this March approaches 1M or even surpasses! Pretty soon SAT will have multiple months with over 1M passengers flying through regularly!

SAT February 2024 Statistics

Quote:
SUMMARY In February 2024, the airport’s passenger numbers reached 757,711. SAT once again broke a monthly passenger record with this February being the busiest in the airport’s history. The previous record was set in February 2019. 2023 was the busiest year in SAT’s history with nearly 10.7 million passengers flying through the airport’s two terminals. This trend has continued with February 2024 being the 10th record-breaking month in a row for SAT. Comparing the numbers to the year prior, the airport experienced a significant 8% increase in passengers compared to February 2023. Airlines continue to add capacity to San Antonio. Several airlines flew more seats to San Antonio this month than the same month in 2023. The airlines with the largest increases in service year over year included Spirit Airlines (NK), Volaris (Y4), Viva Aerobus (VB), American Airlines (AA), Southwest Airlines (WN), United Airlines (UA), Alaska Airlines (AS), Aeromexico (AM), and Delta Air Lines (DL). Additionally, a total of 18,887,101 pounds of air cargo moved through SAT during the month of February 2024. This is a little over 1% above levels seen during the same month in 2023. For more detailed information, see the included charts.

Possible new international service

I'm not sure what to make of this but it looks like Avelo received authorization to fly international from the DOT and a few organizations are writing that SAT was listed as a potential origin/destination for international service to Mexico and potentially points further.

Taken from ch aviation:
"The US carrier received exemption authority for two years for services:

from Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio International to Mexico City (most likely México City Felipe Angeles due to México City International’s saturation levels), Toluca, and Acapulco, as well as to points in Panama and beyond;"

Though I can't find where these proposed routes where actually written in the DOT filing...
https://www.regulations.gov/document...2024-0040-0001

Fingers crossed that this leads to something that lasts.

I was wondering when someone was going to start flying SAT-Felipe Angeles, especially a discount carrier. Panama "and points beyond" would be surprising and I have a feeling applies to DFW only. SAT-Toluca (again) would be interesting now that the Interurbano line is opening up to connect to Mexico City.
