It will look fantastic when completed, from the linear creek park, and awesome at night!

So there are 4 floors to go correct? I count that they are working on floor 20. Floors 20-23 to go plus a crown. Am I correct?

That parking garage is really going to be an eyesore.

Especially with it backing up to the creek like this. Ugh.

It is definitely much better than the parking garages for BofA and the Wyndam hotel.

But wait for the glass to be put in on the frame. It will be very nice, especially at night.

Yeah, that's probably the one thing that bugs me the most about the building. Unfortunately the garage sits halfway under the tower, so there's no way of demolishing the garage in the future for another tower without some tricky engineering. I wish they had just stacked the tower on top of the garage. The garage has 6 levels, doesn't it? If you chopped the garage in half and stacked the two halves, and then stacked the tower on top of that, you'd probably be looking at another 100 feet of height. That's what I wish they had done. It would have been the tallest building in San Antonio then - a good 20 feet or so more than the Weston Centre. Then the rest of the block could have been turned into a plaza connect with the park across the street.

I'd estimate that it's up to about 300 feet right now. Also, this is not the full height of the cranes just yet. They'll have to raise them both again before the building tops out. Crane shaft pieces are 20 feet tall, and it looks like there's 5 of them above the top of the building in the taller crane. There's also a piece that the crane boom swivels on that's around 10 feet tall or so. So the bottom of the taller crane right now is around ~110 feet above the top of the building. The peak of the crane is about another 25 feet. So, I'm thinking they'll need to add another 2 or 3 shaft pieces.

Those are great pics by the way. The building is looking really good. I'm glad to see some glass on San Antonio's skyline. One thing you'll notice, too, is that it'll elevate the other buildings on the skyline. You'll come to appreciate how tall those older ones were. It's funny, but that's something I wasn't expecting while watching the construction of the new ones in Austin.

The Parking garage is a completely separate structure. On the west side of the tower there are 6 levels to match the parking garage, but they are not the same structure.

I DISAGREE
The parking garage will give the linear park a more urban feel in that area.

The Highline in NYC has lots of "urban feel" areas in its path!!

The garage has retail facing the creek. I would be more concerned about the road between the creek and the garage, and the parking lot on the other side.

To add to and sum up others' points in reply to yours:

A. It won't really look like a garage because of the cladding that has yet to be put on.

B. It doesn't "back up" the creekwalk at all, but instead has an active street-front.

C. There's a street separating the garage from the creekwalk.

B+C. To the extent that the garage actively fronts (different, and more accurate, framing than "backs up to") the creekwalk, it is still separated from it by a road.

D. You're complaining about this structure, rather than complaining about the substantially worse structures (or lack thereof) that currently face phase 1.1 of the creekwalk? This garage will be the ONLY urban structure adjacent to the creekwalk. Maybe the historic house across from Travis Street counts, but I'd argue that given its current surroundings it is not yet an urban structure. Every other parcel save for Fox Tech is either a parking lot or a suburban-style multifamily apartment.

E. Phases 1.2 and 1.3 are the most urban setting for the creekwalk, and even they will simply fit in between blank walls (perhaps eventually filled with privately commissioned murals?) on the sides of buildings. Is this garage worse than those blank walls what with its active uses facing the creek?

That old Frost building to the left of the new one is an even bigger eyesore.

I agree. I wish the city will one day renovate that exterior in some way.

Maybe I'm biased because I grew up in SA, but the old Frost building is one of the few examples of brutalist architecture that I actually can tolerate. (I don't love it either.)

Nice pictures, Raul and theOGalexd.

Yeah, count me in as liking the Frost Bank Tower. I like the concrete and the dark windows. The contrast is good.
