Only question though: with all of this extra Waterfront residential, will Winnipeg Transit actually start to cover Waterfront Drive, more than just with a Downtown Spirit? Because if this area gains critical mass, honestly it could use some transit service. That or 300 jobs right across the street.

I am not really good at conjuring up transit routes, but what about a local feeder route that connects Point Douglas to Waterfront Drive to The Forks, and then on to Graham Avenue?

It might take a few more people in the area to support it, but even now usage couldn't be much worse than on other local feeders like the 95... I used to live by that route in Riverview and I don't think I ever saw more than three people riding that bus outside of the morning rush hour, when numbers might swell up to seven or eight passengers.

There are 9 different routes that use the Pacific and Martha stop, which is a 1 minute walk out the back door of my condo building on Waterfront.

The downtown spirit already does the Bannatyne roundabout.

The roundabouts aren't that tight... a full length bus should be able to handle it.

Waterfront doesn't need more busses. As mentioned there's several major routes on Lily/Market/Pacific, and Main Street is a 3 minute walk.

Are you sure that wasn't a trolley? I don't think I've ever seen a WT bus here without a back door.

It for sure wasn't a trolly. It looked like a regular transit bus just shortened. This was a few yeas back and literally the only time I rode the spirit.

I think the area would benefit from a stop along Lily behind the Concert Hall between the Martha/Pacific stop and the Market/Main stop. Brings the stop 200m closer to Waterfront. It's not much, but nor would it be much for a bus to stop there also.

I would agree in keeping buses off Waterfront. Lily is only a block away, Main St another block beyond that. 1-2 blocks is more than acceptable for proximity to transit.

The challenge would be to find a closer stop that did not remove another 4 parking spots in an area of very few. The City recently placed a fire hydrant in front of 111 Pacific and removed THREE parking spots needlessly. The City departments may not be too coordinated in this regard.

Yes, the 940 series are 30 ft. in length and have one door at the front. I guess you don't ride public transit much (if at all) here.

If you ride the main routes, you’ll never ride a small bus. But yeah, I see them downtown all the time. Also, never been in one of those long articulated buses because they are not assigned to the Portage Ave routes. Wish they would use them more tho.

Occasionally full-length buses are used on the Spirit routes, and they manage to get around the roundabout just fine.

From the City of Winnipeg 2012 transportation standards manual.

Buses/Major Incident Response Vehicle

All roundabouts within a current or proposed transit route shall be designed to accommodate a City of Winnipeg DLF-40 Transit Bus without encroachment onto the apron area.

Standard Template provides the necessary information to evaluate a City bus using design software.

The Transit Bus Standard Template is also considered adequate to accommodate the City’s Major Incident Response Vehicle.
