Did they take the "waves" off of the cladding?

Sweet! I notice the upper portion has changed significantly. It's more of a pronounced set-back now, which IMO is a big improvement from the original renders.

yeah, the setbacks at the top have become much more pronounced. they will really help give the building a better skyline presence shape. the proportions of the the small inset setback on the side of the tower is also much better in the new design. overall, much improved in my opinion.

old rendering vs. new rendering

Also looks like the coloring of the glass on certain sections is different.

Wow. The changes are subtle but the impact is large. It appears visually much taller and skinnier to me. I like it a lot.

Also did the mechanical penthouse get taller or are the other parts of the building shorter?

Yes! Still not perfect but this is a big improvement in my opinion. The top is now just as nice as the bottom. And it does look taller, for some reason.

I'm even more excited to see this baby rise, now.

Redesign

Agree with everyone here that this is an improvement. It's bolder, makes more of a statement on the skyline, really just exudes more verticality. The setbacks are great, very nicely done and placed.

I have to admit at first I had a similar reaction to XIII, and I didn't like the fact that the woven facade seems to have went away. After a minute however, I think especially with the design changes, it may very well look better without ('flatter' facade, but hopefully very high quality with some articulation.....better be eons ahead of 155 N Wacker....that curtain wall just misses the mark, period....everything from the color to the detail is just wrong!)...

^ Ah, ok - looking a little harder at the new rendering - at the top, you can still make it out....

The definitions of the setbacks seem more pronounced and proportional. All in all, it seems less blocky.

I like the refinements.

I also like the way the plaza level lines the river. It seems less heavy and more open compared to previous projects.

One thing I forgot to mention was that at last weeks meeting, the architects mentioned that they were looking into having the windows at the river level be operable/sliding, where the restaurant/conference rooms are located.

I prefer the more subtle version of the wavy mullions.

There's a saying that good design should work at multiple scales... now spectators will have to come up close to 150N to see the wavy pattern. They may even stand with their backs to the tower and look up, as they do at Chase Tower.

I like this one for the most part. The materials and how they look in real life once it's finished will be the key, but I think it'll look good.
