Interesting, that is fair reasoning imo

There are advantages and disadvantages to annexation currently, but Winnipeg will keep growing in all directions and there is merit for city council to start thinking about the pros and cons of annexation process in the short term

There are pros/cons as you mention and forward thinking is a prudent move, something we're not quite used to hearing about in the River City. Maybe things will change, but I'm hoping the merits of these types of discussion will eventually be seen to benefit the city moving forward

Oh my, Fieldings 5 Point plan, there must be an election around the corner.

FIELDING’S FIVE-POINT PLAN:

1. Pass bylaw which prohibits tax increase above inflation, with council needing at least two-thirds support to increase taxes above inflation

2. Zero-based line-item budgeting to replace traditional budgeting

3. Spending oversight committee created to control spending and monitor expenditures before money is approved and released from treasury

4. Gain sharing with employees to find efficiencies

5. Transparent performance measurement scorecards of all city services and departments

A great thread to discuss City of Winnipeg and Municipal Politics when they arise. With Katz out of the picture and Bowman in..

Which I think is fine. Katz era was wild for all the wrong reasons.
I'm starting to get this feeling, our expectations were quite high when he was elected. Inviting Trump to Winnipeg? Well one thing is for certain, he knows how to use social media.

During the election Bowman promised to visit every province in Canada during his first term to promote Winnipeg as a place to do business. We will see if he does so.

^ Talk about a "who cares" promise... will anyone really care if Bowman fails to make it to New Brunswick in the next couple years?

Oh, so he should not counter the moves by those governing other jurisdictions? But I suppose holding hands around the Thunderbird House singing Kumbaya is more important than drumming up business.

^ I just don't think it'll drum up much business. I'm not sure it was that great a promise to begin with.

Corporations are not loyal to their jurisdictions; efforts are warranted IMO.

I think the more important promise was the immediate infrastructure money he promised. Judging by the number of projects this year just passed, I would think he delivered.

I'm also interested in his promise on BRT. It would be nice if they could start construction on phase 1 of the next BRT line by the end of this term.

Nothing he did; the money was already coming from the feds.

I remember the promise, although I am not sure he has found this money yet?

You're right - the Build Winnipeg partnership only started this fall.

I would like to know what progress is being made regarding a strong policy on the surface lot issue. He promised action, and again, he has not been in office too long, but a progress report would be nice. We have read about the tax incentives, but policy framework would be welcomed. In terms of the Sports Manitoba allowance for its surface lot, the Calvary Temple situation, etc, I do not recall Bowman opposing these?

Bowman's grandstanding statement about inviting Trump here was cringe worthy and embarrassing and kind of showed what a mental midget Bowman really is. Sad to now say I voted for the guy but there was no real choice.
