Nope, it is coming to Bathurst. The official company website lists two job listings for "Bathurst NB, Canada". https://careersen-recipeunlimited.ic...lHFtEHoZYGXqx8

Well those Harvey’s jobs disappeared rather quickly, 2 days, unsure if it was again a mistake or if they just found candidates that quick. But if you go online, you can still search Bathurst nb for a job location.

Classic Burgers has open their Bathurst location, only hearing good things about it.

Pizza Pro has opened their location, half the size it was before, other half is Mexiglu and it coming along good.

Also the large plot of land for sale on st-anne st might have been subdivided, the sign has been moved closer to the highway, it indicates that around 3acres are for sale, that piece alone is more than 3 acres i figure.

Miramichi city council is moving ahead with plans to buy land for a new multi-plex.

It has authorized spending a million dollars to buy 70 acres off Douglastown Blvd. near the Walmart. Mayor Adam Lordon told the Leader he hopes this will reignite conversations with the provincial government for support for our community and region.

If it goes ahead, the multiplex would replace the Lord Beaverbrook Arena, the Golden Hawk and Lindon Recreation Centres and Miramichi Valley High School pool. It would include an NHL-sized arena, aquatic centre, large gym and other amenities.

$13M (predictably) down the drain. Heads should roll..........

I mean, really, the only tried and true method of getting hydrogen from seawater is through some form of electrolysis. To claim otherwise is hocus pocus.

Appropriate this story was released at Halloween.

Quote:
One of the company's patents claims it can generate hydrogen at 200 per cent efficiency. For one watt of input energy, the patent says two watts of energy in the form of hydrogen gas are produced.

Anyone who claims more than 100% efficiency has no idea how entropy works.

This is apparently what the CEO of NB Power believes

Completely predictable but outrageous nonetheless. Geatan Thomas should be out as CEO. The CEO of NB Power should have some amount of physics or engineering background... or at least some basic understanding of such matters.

Blaine Higgs as a trained engineer should be able to recognize this ill advised investment for the hooey that it was. Thomas should go. I'm sure Higgs will hold the door open for him on the way out.........

Good new for Grand Falls. Happy to see a NB Company further supporting the area.

He actually is an engineer (maybe electrical but not 100% sure). I find the whole thing crazy, I feel like the media has been stating some info incorrectly because it is impossible to get more energy out than what is put in, ie energy in has to equal energy out (law of conservation of energy - energy can neither be created nor destroyed, only converted, which is the first law of thermodynamics iirc), so I dont understand how anyone with an engineering background would believe that it is possible. I haven’t followed it closely but I suspect that they (joi) may have knowingly overstated the efficiency of their technology, where stated the energy available (in the form of heat from combustion used for power generation or for use in fuel cells) from the separated hydrogen is close to the energy input (used to extract the hydrogen) so high efficiency overall, but not more energy out than in. At least that is the only I can make sense of it.

** Edit
Been thinking about this and the one way i can think of that would support the claim of 2 watts out per watt in that wouldnt break any laws of thermodynamics would be, say if they found a way to extract the hydrogen using a less energy intensive process than traditional technologies (eg eletrolosis) and the energy available in the extracted hydrogeny was greater than the energy required to extract it then potentially their claims could be possible, so for example say they discovered some new process and it requires 1 watt but the energy available in the hydrogen extracted is 4W (a bit extra to account for shaft and thermal losses in generation), then theoretically 4 W available energy - 1W for generation losses - 1W to extract the hydrogen = 2 W remaining (to generate power). So based on this the actual overall efficiency would be 50% rather than 200%.

I always figured it was something like that - that they were proposing some means of extracting hydrogen from seawater which would use less energy than what would be produced in burning the hydrogen, resulting in a net output.

Kind of like how heat pumps are >100% efficient because the energy isn't directly converted to heat, but rather used to move energy from one place to another, and the energy required to make that motion happen is less than the amount of energy moved.

But I think the big problem with the Joi concept is that there isn't a known way of extracting hydrogen which is indeed so low-energy; it's the same reason hydrogen cars haven't made any significant progress (among other reasons in that case).

I agree, have serious doubts about their claims.

Was really just trying to think of way that could potentially justify some of the decisions nbpower made with regard to making the $13M investment. Probably should have done a better job with their due diligence though .

Yeah that is going to hurt the region, when they canceled the plant upgrade not to long ago, that was a sign of things to come.

Hard push from Boston Pizza to find a franchisee in Bathurst, signs in front of Place Bathurst mall, 2 dates of presentation from the franchise team.... hopefully the closure of the smelter will not discourage the company or potential investors. The region has seen its fair share of closures but was bouncing back in the recent years.

There is still potential industrial projects that could erase the job losses, lots of hope is put into Maritime Iron, they now have more than enough qualified workers available to operate the plant.

Also Arianne Phosphate’s plan who has been more on the quiet side recently still surfaces up on the lips of politicians that talk about the upcoming potential projects.

For the port of Belledune, it will most likely be a few years of drop in cargo and revenue but it has diversified so much in the last few years that it will recover very well. Also if they decommission all the facilities of the Brunswick Smelter and the port buys the land afterwards, it will open up development opportunities for the port.

The only thing I am worried about is rail. All though the Caribou mine will need to ship its product now, if they use rail, I believe it will offset or augment the traffic but if they use ships, rail service in the north might be in trouble.

One thing is for sure, the Chaleur region has diversified in the last few years and will bounce back from this closure.

Worried about rail too. Smelter was a big customer although they have been shipping less and less since strike started. Lead from Caribou was trucked to smelter. Zinc trucked to there as well and loaded on the train. We will see what happens to Caribou after. Looks like will need new customer for lead. Hopefully stay open. Also hopefully the port will get a big project involving rail. I see in news port of Dalhousie and Belledune looking to partner on projects. That could be good.

The port of Belledune is running out of place, even with the new dock space being built it will still need more place, take a look on google maps, they updated the port pictures and there is a lot of bulk cargo everywhere.

I see that they would partner with Dalhousie when they reach over capacity to deal with the overspill until they figure a solution in Belledune. Dalhousie has every advantage to take advantage of what they can as the future of the port of Dalhousie is uncertain.

Caribou will mostly find a loading facility to ship product, hopefully by rail.

Article on CBC with picture showing the proposed new Pig Iron plant in Belledune, lots of faith is being put into this project. Hopefully this will create spin off and the more they talk about the Belledune instalations is even better, free publicity!
