NIKE was an official sponsor of the Olympic Winter Games in a big way. I bet there was some backroom deal early on that included naming rights to the new stadium.

Just sayin'.

^ I don't think Nike was a sponsor of the 2010 games: List of Sponsors. Looks like they did some footwear and some apparel for the US team, and they might have sponsored some of the other national Olympic committees I guess.

Anyways, are there any stadiums/arenas named after athletic companies? They might avoid that due to conflicts with the sponsors of leagues using the facilities...

Since BIG BAD Rogers has muscled into Shaw's turf in a big way, I would assume that Shaw needs to make some type of statement to regain it's western prominence.
A 10 year deal on the stadium should do it.

Not a chance. Who puts white seats in a stadium?

Ya, they did some sport-specific stuff for various countries. But I don't really see how that ties into a naming rights deal with PavCo...

I actually think TWOFACE is right. It's very possible that Rogers will name both arena and stadium.

Red seats don't age very much. Look at GM Place. From the bowl it looks like a brand new stadium 15 years later. Why? Dark red seats. I don't know what shade BC Place's will be but I wouldn't be surprised if they took a cue from their neighbour.

That's not what I said. I'm thinking that Shaw will name the Stadium to counter Rogers with the Ice Arena.

If both are named Rogers, that would be spectacularly dumb.

Especially since people are already confusing Rogers Arena and Rogers Centre.
