The RFQ is out today for the Design-Build of the CPR Overpass near Inkster, Perimeter and CentrePort Way interchange and overpass of the Perimeter at Saskatchewan & rail line. Things are happening fast. Slated to be open to traffic Oct 2011.

Is Saskatchewan Ave and the Perimeter still a stoplight controlled intersection? is this going to be eliminated with the CentrePort Way interchange right beside it?

Yes, there's still lights at Sask ave and Perimeter. Judging from Biff's comments, it sounds like there will be an overpass to replace this intersection.

I believe the Perimeter overpass at Saskatchewan will have simple on and off ramps to the Perimeter, but it is obviously up to whomever wins the design-Build contract.

Whatever they build would have to be only part of the final design as ulimately CentrePort Way is to become the Headingley bypass west of the Perimeter.

The $212M shouldn't seem so bad anymore given that we are getting a brand new highway that is probably going to be the highest quality material as well as 3 grade separated interchanges.

Here is the RFQ, btw:

What I'd like to see is an announcement about what is being done with the money for the Trans Canada through Headingley.

Of course this does not include the interchange already announced interchange at Inkster and Sturgon (Centreport Expressway).

I grin everytime I think of it.

Or, the redesign of the interchange at Inkster and the Perimeter.

Or the twinning of Inkster......

Yes, and of course eventually Centreport Way will run all the way to the Transcanada west of Headingly, making for a bypass expressway, around the western municipality.

The interchanges at Inkster and Sturgeon and Inkster at the Perimeter have beem cancelled in favor of the new roadway. They are still twinning Inkster between Keewatin and Broookside though.

Are you certain on that, as I have heard there were surveying where Inkster and Stergeon meet, only a few weeks ago.

How would that work? You'd drive all the way up north of Saskatchewan Avenue and then head due south down the Perimeter to pick up Portage again? This would be fine if you're in the North End but the route doesn't seem to make much sense otherwise.

Depends on who the traveler is I guess. If you're a regular bloke like us then you'd probably continue on your way through Headingly. But if your involved in transporting something, then why not take the bypass (especially if your destination is in/near Centreport)?

True but there has been a need, and have been plans, for a Headingley bypass for decades because of traffic considerations unrelated to CentrePort. It seems strange to spend the money to finally build a Headingley bypass that doesn't solve that long-term problem. Would it be possible that truck traffic not headed for CentrePort would now find using the bypass + North Perimeter a faster way around Winnipeg than Portage + South Perimeter? Maybe it would work out if that were the case, but you'd still be left with the awkward undivided route through Headingley for the majority of traffic.

There was money in the federal budget specifically for improving the stretch of the Trans Canada through Headingley.

So then is Inkster still being twinned to CCW? I understand why they're doing it, but it is sickening that people using Inkster will still have to deal with the CP line.
