Yeah, fair enough. At the end of the day it's not that dissimilar to the grants that the City provides for various organizations, though. Instead of a hundred grand for WTC Winnipeg, they get free office space - or at least that's my theory.

If they're going to do it, it should be based on merit. WTC is a borderline useless, extremely dysfunctional entity that doesn't offer anything beyond what several existing, competing orgs do.

Probably true, but they have a CEO who over the years has proven to be really, really good at getting politicos to buy into her vision, for whatever it has happened to be at the time.

I just checked their website and they have a staff of 20!

What exact tangible benefits has WTC provided to Winnipeg and Manitoba exactly? Any specific examples?

Remember when everyone thought the announcement WTC was opening here meant a new tower, and instead they are paying $1 rent in a city-owned building.

Now THAT is comedy.

WTC was at the Paris Bldg. at one time, what happened to that?
I used to work in the Paris Bldg. early in the 2000s at Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada in the FIPD programme. Then we moved out. Paris should be apartments or condos. actually.

That's said. Gord went to the same church I did as a kid.

I saw Maralee Caruso in the skywalk yesterday. She's super short. Is she still on the show?

^ She's still there. Media is a cutthroat business... stay for 25 years, do all the community/charity events, then boom, out of nowhere you get the chop.

I see it in the engineering industry too. Especially at the old company I worked for.

Senior staff with all the knowledge getting let go because their salaries are too high. They can't be billed out at their full rates so don't make any money. Buh bye. Bullshit.

Yes. She was hosting alone yesterday from what I understand. Walking the skywalk often you see a bunch of the on air people. Caruso is tiny and wears a tonne of makeup. That hot one is just as hot in person.

It's bizarre but it seems like EVERY news anchor is extremely short. Like some sort of rite of passage. Every time I see one I'm shocked – I don't think Janet Stewart is even 5'2.

On the layoff, part of me thinks it likely is due to absurd salaries, likely negotiated by the union. I don't know the comparison between TV and radio (I'd imagine TV is higher) but Dave Wheeler was making $330,000 when he was fired. Ace Burpee probably makes more. Gord could have just become unsustainable, and layoff the only option.

Walked through the legislature grounds just now and crews are installing a ton of Xmas lights in the trees around the grounds. Finally our leg. will get the holiday treatment it deserves!

It's actually for a special installation called Illuminate 150 that will light up the grounds to kick off 150 days til Manitoba 150. December 12 I think it turns on. Doubt it will be back, I think they're rentals. It will be up most of the winter though.
