Winnipeg is a great place to live. There's tons going on here and it's getting more vibrant every year.
Good luck with your application!

of course not, i will suggest it to Tourism Montréal for their next campaign.

I don't mind the political issues part of it, it makes things less boring. But racism is defienitly not a problem in Montréal, believe it or not.

I will try not to be the 'typical' Winnipegger that asks Pallo 'Why Winnipeg?!?!'. If you make it here, welcome!

Question - How is it, Malek, you were able to find the one comment regarding Montreal that popped up in the Manitoba/Sask section. I'm sure there are more comments, but what alerted you to this one?

I believe I posted a map of the crime areas of the city before ... I am not sure if I still have it. I will have to look when I get back to Calgary.

The North End, West Broadway and Brookside are among the high crime areas.

Though, might I remind, that is due to regionalism. The areas around the city could be considered a nation by itself but it isn't. Hence, the friction one experiences. I'm quite comfortable with Edmonton so I'm unlikely to move. Any "hatin'" I give off is all fun and games.

Well, another soon to be 'Pegger being among us. Welcome!!

Being born and raised here, I can't think of any other place to call home (but I do have to admit, I'd love to go to Australia someday and spend months there).

And yes, for any city you go, there would be always unique things associated with it, as well as their share of problems, and Winnipeg is no different. We are a unique city with our culture, our history, and attitude on ALL scales. We also have crime (no city isn't without one in any form) and we have mosquitoes. We have cold weather in which you just mentioned you love, and we make the fun out of it as we make the fun out of summer.

In the winter, expect snowstorms with stuck cars, snow that piles up above your knees, and the brisk cold that comes after. Although, at least you can spend your winter holidays with snow. In the summer, expect the aforementioned mosquitoes with muggy temps and bright sunny skies for most of the year.

If racism exists, no matter how small, it's a problem.

How about this: Racism is a problem in rural Canada.

There you go! Here's your security blankie back.

Pallo - I too am curious how you ended up picking Winnipeg? Just curious...nothing wrong with it, but all of Canada can be cold in the winter, if that truly excites you Of course, no other major city is as cold as Winnipeg...once you get used to it, a typical winter is manageable to get through, but at the worst it can be bad...I still remember my last year living in the Peg where the temperature didn't get above -20c (or was it -25c?) for about 3 weeks (average Jan daytime high is about -12c). But really, that weather will only last a couple of months, before getting into more "comfortable" cold weather...right in time for Festival Du Voyager in Feb

I also just want to point out, after all this talk about crime - and how "bad" it is - really, it isn't that bad...unless things have really changed in the last 8-9 years. I definitely wouldn't be scared to travel into most areas...certain areas may seem rundown, but areas you likely wouldn't live/go into anyway. But, still, even those areas aren't even that bad in the bigger picture.

Yeah. The snow doesn't come heavy. It's too light and sparse that it doesn't add up to much. At least Winnipeg and Saskatchewan gets good dumps of snow.
