First great shots! Secondly, somebody mention the East Side Qdoba and how it would be great if that lot was developed. Interestingly enough that Qdoba is intended to be removed for a development as soon as the property own lands one. Last year they bid on the UWM dorm (didn't get the project Mandel did and you can see it in the photos above), but it is clear the thought it to develop that site.

Agreed. I have had the exact same experience of Milwaukee -- first went in 2006/06 and was blown away. I'd love to see before and after pix too, just to see what the heck happened up there. One of my favorite US cities.

Decided to go for a walk...

Cambridge Commons is moving along.

Whatever is supposed to be happening to the Downer Garage appears to be happening...

I don't think these photos can do justice to the feel of this neighborhood, but I'm looking forward to the added density that this development will bring. The Kennilworth Dorms (and the accompanying influx of foreign and graduate students into the neighborhood) has already added a lot to these few blocks. It's also nice to step out for a walk, such as today's, and hear a smattering of German, Spanish, Japanese, among many other languages. I hope the addition of the Cambridge Dorms to North Ave., as well as this development, will help the neighborhood to continue to pull itself together into a cohesive, vibrant unit.

Glad you're enjoying them Groninger! Here are a few more from Sunday:

Brady Street

Potential new site for Green Fields Trading Co. (2.5 stories)

Breakwater

Bonus Brady shots (I hope no one minds)

Glorioso's (current site)

Another potential site for development along Brady

And for anyone who missed it, the Journal Sentinel had a nice Brady-street related article this morning:

And since it's been in the news lately...

UrbanSchmurban-

You really ought to create a photo thread and showcase Milwaukee's wonderful neighborhoods. You seem to like getting out and snapping some shots, so put them in a thread! (Just a suggestion of course!!)

Good pictures Urban.

Why has the Hoan been in the news? Is it having structural issues?

Thanks Nowhereman!

The Hoan has been in the news ever since it was revealed that potential alternatives to resurfacing the deck were being looked into, such as replacing the bridge with a lower span. A community group - the Coalition to Save the Hoan Bridge - has even been formed since that information first came to light. Should be interesting to see what happens.

New apartment proposal

Developer proposes apartments for east side site
By Tom Daykin of the Journal Sentinel
Posted: Oct. 21, 2009

An apartment building with up to 88 units is planned for Milwaukee's east side, another indication of demand for new rentals in that area.

Wangard Partners Inc. plans to develop the apartments on land east of HighBridge condominiums, 1888 N. Water St., said Wayne Wiertzema, executive vice president.
