Oh cool. Thanks for the clarification on that. These pictures were with a bunch of pics of me and my sister from 1990 so I figured they were all from the same time. He must have mixed a few in there from 1986.

The Continental Bank logo was installed during the winter of '85-86, and was switched to Lloyd's Bank during early '87. That building has never looked better than it did with the Continental logo. The first HSBC logo (two-year's worth?) looked not bad as well because it was also black, but having the white-coloured logos atop now makes that building look constantly hokey.

In my opinion, the Harvard twins ought to not have logos atop at all. Mosaic's logo looks nice though.

I like in this picture seeing the 1960's Shell gas station at the corner of Albert & 12th. It was torn down a couple of years after this and they built the Neil professional building there in it's place.

There was one at Broad and 12th as well, but it is still a brownfield site.

Wow, that South Albert photo takes me back... the OK Economy, Landmark Inn, Texaco/7-11, Lakeside Chrysler... those were my stomping grounds back in high school!

DESCRIPTION OF HISTORIC PLACE
The Diocese of Qu’Appelle is a Provincial Heritage Property occupying an 8.142 hectare parcel of land at the corner of College Avenue and Broad Street in the city of Regina. The designated property includes the grounds and five red brick Collegiate Gothic style buildings, the names of which have changed several times throughout the site’s history: Clergy House/St. Cuthbert’s House/Synod Office (1912), Secretary’s House/Anson House (1913), St. Chad’s College (1913-14), Maple Leaf Hostel/Harding House (1925), and Bishop’s Court (1926).
HERITAGE VALUE
The heritage value of the Diocese of Qu’Appelle property lies in its association with the Anglican Church and its educational, administrative and missionary activities in southern Saskatchewan. In 1912, the Diocese acquired a large parcel of land at the corner of College Avenue and Broad Street from the provincial government. Plans for the “College and Cathedral Site” included a seminary, boarding schools, Bishop’s residence, and cathedral. The first building to be constructed was a Clergy House which served as the headquarters for the Railway Mission, a program which oversaw the numerous itinerant priests who travelled across southern Saskatchewan by rail helping to establish new parishes. In 1913-14, the Secretary’s House and St. Chad’s College, a theological school for the training of young men for ministry, were constructed on the site. The Qu’Appelle Diocesan School for Girls, which opened in 1918, was initially located in Clergy House. However, enrolment grew quickly and they traded places with the theological college moving into St. Chad’s where they remained until the girls’ school closed in 1970. In 1925, the Maple Leaf Hostel was built to provide accommodation for young British teachers attending the nearby Normal School. In 1926, Bishop’s Court was constructed near the north-west corner of the property. Although the planned cathedral was never realized, the site remained an important hub for church activities.
The heritage value of the Diocese of Qu’Appelle property also lies in its architecture. Designed by three different firms, Montreal architects Brown and Vallance (Clergy House and St. Chad’s College), Regina architects Storey and Van Egmond (Secretary’s House) and Francis Portnall (Maple Leaf Hostel and Bishop’s Court), the buildings display elements of Collegiate Gothic architecture. Most often utilized for schools, universities and churches, this style of architecture became popular in Canada in the early 20th century and is evident in the long, low asymmetrical masses, the use of a uniform, dark-coloured brick trimmed with stone or terra cotta, the Gothic windows with pointed arches, the crenellated towers and picturesque roofscapes, and the use of representational sculptural elements.

The buildings on this site are considered to be one the very unique in Canada

I remember grabbing lunch at that old Dominion store deli counter - a foot long (!) egg roll and bean salad.

I went to high school with a guy who played in a band that played at the Beachcomber in 71 or so. I was working across the street at the old Drake Hotel. I would go over there after shift and drink even though he was 17 and I was 16.

Exhibition Stadium -

Lots of memories in that place:

My first big rock concert - April Wine with Heart as the opening act.

1974 - Tiger Williams climbing more than half way up the seats to fight with fans. - there was no glass around the penalty boxes or benches if you can believe it. I was at this game and it was completely totally wild:
Friday, April 19, after almost 47 minutes of play, the Broncos decided to leave their bench led by Dave “Tiger” Williams. Using their hockey sticks as weapons, he led them into the stands to settle a few matters with some spectators. Approximately 30 minutes later, both teams were escorted to their dressing rooms by Regina's police. When the game resumed, the Bronco's bench was surrounded by a ring of city police and there was no further scoring. Regina went on to down Swift Current 6-2 at the Stadium.

The old organ playing up in the rafters.

The ancient old ice cleaning machine - I thought it was magic when I was a kid.

The old scoreboard with moving hands clock. See below.

So many more...

^^ haha. I remember that Tiger Williams game as well. I wasn't there but my sister was. Tiger climbed right past her to get to the fans in the back. She had to go back down later to give a statement to the police. I remember him having to go to court over that but I don't remember what happened. Concern at the time that it would affect his pro career - which it obviously didn't.
My first concert in the old barn was Nazareth - don't remember who opened. The place always had a hazy fog in the air - that place was magic.

Concerts at the "Cow Barn"

My first concert was Chilliwack (remember the song, Raino, Raino). There were some Apollos there hassling the guy two seats down from me about some grass deal gone wrong. Ah, the Apollos, the only motorcycle gang that took the bus downtown on Saturday afternoon.

Roxy (wasn't it actually called the Odeon Roxy) - closed about '77.
Broadway and the Metropolitan - closed about '81.
Odeon Center in Regina Inn - guessing here...closed '85ish???
Capitol - closed about '92. It converted from a single to a twin at some point in the 70's I think.
That leaves the modern downtown theatres:
Coronet (6) - closed about '03.
Cornwall (4)- closed about '04.
Did I mention that I'm really digging this thread?!?
