The Henderson Perkins used to be a D'8 Schtove (Mennonite Restaurant). They closed down sometime in mid - late 1990s

I remember that. But it didn't last long.

There was also a Garbonzo's right near there for a while. Where the Shapes is now, I think.

I'd love to see a local restaurant go in where the Perkins is now but I doubt that will ever happen.

On the upside, since we couldn't go to Perkins for dinner this week, we took my relative to the Half Moon for a hot dog. Still as yummy as ever.

The Transcona Popeye's is going into what looks to be the former Payless Shoe location at Crossroad Station.

There is a site plan approval hearing as part of the July EKTrans Community Committee meeting.

Can't say I am surprised by the news especially when they locate in a relatively competitive area.
They didn't even have a sign. I walked by many times wondering if I could go inside.

The river heights we hate everything facebook page (i'm not old enough to be on facebook, so I can't confirm) is all bothered about that neighbourhood pub chain that opened on south Osborne will also be opening on academy road where the inferno's used to be. Great addition to the neighbourhood.

^^ Not sure what happened but The Crust was over priced for what they were offering v many local operators offering a similar product. Sure they were first to market with the whole fast fired pizza trend but there was nothing unique keeping others from following quickly.

Hopefully a top notch local operator like Pronto can take over the space.

Not surprised. I figured when they shut down the dinner service that it was the beginning of the end.

For anyone who worked in the kitchen there, word is that the Smitty's further along Henderson is looking for cooks.

Hopefully something great will move in where the Perkins was but I won't be surprised if it's not a restaurant.

Opening up in the former Grey Owl cafe in the Scott Block at 272 Main. They also operate the Fushion Sushi in The Forks Market and are moving their Academy shop to a new larger location to accommodate it's growth.

LOCAL Garry St seems to be set to open in September. Renovations and a back expansion are taking place and the internal (Joey/Local) hiring and recruitment process has begun. This is set to be the best spot downtown with Earls Main likely taking the biggest hit. Having enjoyed many hours at LOCAL in Kits and Gastown, I am very much looking forward to this.

That's what happens when you don't spend a cent on maintenance or upgrades in over 15 years. It was pretty dumpy and dirty in there... they still had the same black FUTONS since the day they opened, and they were gross.

Construction for Frankie's Italian Kitchen is well underway near the IHOP at the Outlet mall. From their website looks like a more upscale version of Olive Garden. It will be interesting to see how it fares v lots of local mom and pop Italian places.
