I'm late to this thread, thanks Geomorph for keeping it going, it's great.

For anyone visiting Honolulu I'd highly recommend visiting this museum. Such and unexpected delight, too many tourists pass on downtown Honolulu. A great museum in a great building. Book a guided trip to Doris Duke's Shangri-La in Kahala and the museum entry is included.

whatnext, thanks for enjoying the thread, when I visited Honolulu in 2008 I went on the Shangri-La tour and it was well worth the effort...what a gorgeous seaside setting! I only have a few photos of it, I seem to remember that photography was not allowed in the interior. Since it is now a house museum, I'll include the photos here, I'm realizing there may be some other house museums I have pictures of that have not made an appearance in this thread.

WpG_GuY, that's a dramatic shot of that dynamic structure, I hope to visit there this summer to see it!

The state museum of Vorarlberg, located in Bregenz on Lake Constance. Best know for the Bregenzer Festspiele and the floating opera stage on the lake, the museum is well worth a visit.

What types of collections are there? Looks like local pottery and cowbells for sure!

That was the permanent collection, which interestingly they had chosen to display alphabetically. I can’t remember the German for “cowbell”.

The other galleries were temporary exhibits, one on the Romany in the area and the history of discrimination against them, very interesting. Bregenz dates back to Roman Brigantium, so lots of interesting history for a small city.
