Honestly, you won't get any cool views of other skyscrapers, this is by far the tallest thing in the area. If you are a tourist in Tokyo you have probably been to Asakusa. Tokyo Sky Tree is located nearby in Sumida at Oshiage Station (Toei Asakusa Line, Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line) which is going under quite serious commercial redevelopment, Tokyo Sky Tree of course is the most major of it.

Here is a Google Streetview of the site.

This tower is already very prominent. Yesterday, I took a bus from Yokohama to Narita that passed through the Odaiba-Shinkiba waterfront of Tokyo and you could clearly see this burgeoning monster in the distance.

Tokyo SkyTree sighted in anime!

A recently broadcast anime series, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, prominently features the Tokyo Sky Tree in several episodes. The premise of the anime is...you guessed it...what the effects of a magnitude 8 earthquake would have on the 'modern' city. About 5 mins into ep 6, there is a news broadcast sequence reporting the quake's devastation in various Tokyo-ku, and one scene has a prominent depiction of the Sky Tree seamed into the reportage. In the last two eps, one of the main characters has a student notebook themed after the Sky Tree. Not to promo the anime, but it's the first confirmed sighting I've had of the Sky Tree showing up in media-culture outside of the archi-otaku set and the various Shibuya-ku promo vids.

Thanks to those of you who are 'feet on the ground' in Tokyo for posting up such great pics. Like one poster commented, this project has a 'go for it' ethos that seems to be missing in many American building endeavors. Amazing that the Sky Tree is scheduled to be finished by Xmas 2011. I wouldn't be surprised if they beat the deadline they set...

Too bad Tokyo didn't get the nod for the 2016 Olympics, would have been a great setup with the SkyTree and the proposed venues.

LOL, for a moment whilst reading your post, the National Diet building caught my eye...

I had the privilege of studying overseas in Beijing (BeiDa), Tokyo (ToDai) and Seoul. Coolage all around.

Recently I read the height has been increased to 634m (2080ft). See the following link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Sky_Tree and here: http://www.ctbuh.org/Portals/0/Talle...lestTowers.pdf

Yes, the developer themselves indicated 634m some months ago, but the thread title was never changed.

The Golden poop in front of it is the Asahi Brewery.

But it will be high up!
Given the sightlines from Oshiage, it might be possible to see the Marunouchi skyline and Shinjuku skyline side by side, creating the illusion of one huge Tokyo skyline! Either way, you'll be able to see everything from one spot, unlike in Mori Tower where everything revolves around you.

Best skyline view of Tokyo I've seen? From high up in the Shin-Maru building, seeing Shinjuku rise up from the 皇居。 最高だよ~

What do you call that kind of tower - like the Space Needle, CN Tower, the Stratosphere, etc. etc.? Whatever you call it, I don't like it. It's almost like cheating, because there's no occupancy in the "stalk" - you might as well just build a straight truss with guy wires like a radio tower and have a single office on top and call that a building. Bleh.

No one is calling it a building, and it won't show up on any world's tallest lists (unless the list is world's tallest towers), so it's not really cheating in anything.

Wow so many interesting supertall developments going on the world today and this one is definately one of the most interesting. Tokyo seems like a distant planet to me....one that I'd love to visit someday!

This thing is huge!

Although I like Guangzhou's design more, I think this one has better quality in materials, construction and design.

I've overlooked this tower since the beginning, but it's definitely worth some attention.

Holy crap! Its only at 280 some odd meters? Its already super freakin tall and dominating and to think there is still 330 meters to go! Wow, to say the least.

Here are some other renders I found that I havent seen on this forum yet.
