The last update to the re-submitted site plan (for Waterloo Park Tower) was made in August. They got a 180-day extension (until March 2017) to update the current site plan.

There's a hyperlink in that article that leads to this blurb as well: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2...ling-2016.html

Looks like Brian Norwich, the CEO of GMR filed for bankruptcy and his filing showed that GMR has zero value in terms of assets. Not sure this one gets off the ground unless a significant amount of Chinese money pours in.

Plus the Waterloo Park Tower proposal is years old and has never seemed to gain much traction.

I think regardless of your politics it's not hard to see that Trump's brand is undergoing some major changes. If I was an investor in luxury product, I'd think twice about Trump -- even if only because it's not clear what his brand means to luxury consumers right now.

I agree. Regardless of politics, you can see that Trump's name is controversial right now. Even if 10 years ago his name was associated with big time developments and Vegas hotels, certainly now it's much more closely tied to his political career.

If I was a developer I'd steer away from the trump brand name as well. Regardless of this election I don't think it will end well. Although, I'll wait for the renderings

The Statesman has a decent article:
http://www.mystatesman.com/news/news...l-maybe/nswCH/

This project is pretty sketchy: A bankrupt developer using an unpopular brand on his project. Frome the article:
Quote:
Reached by phone Friday, Norwich told the Statesman he would discuss the Austin hotel project only if the Statesman didn’t report on his bankruptcy filing. When the Statesman refused, Norwich ended the phone conversation.

Trump Hotels Ditching Name For New Hotels

Quote:
Amidst reports that occupancy rates at Trump Hotels have slipped this election season, the company has announced that new brand hotels will no longer bear the Trump name.

The newest line of luxury hotels, geared towards millennials, will be called Scion, the company said.

“We wanted a name that would be a nod to the Trump family and to the tremendous success it has had with its businesses, including Trump Hotels, while allowing for a clear distinction between our luxury and lifestyle brands,” Trump Hotels CEO Eric Danziger said in a statement.

The 2 things I look forward to with this Hotel is the location, getting some height there, and what should be a higher quality product inside and out. If this does happen, this spot could use something sleek and shiney, and tall.

Agreed. I hate to kill the conversation, but the hotel development thread isn't really the place, so I moved the posts.

Ideally if you really want to discuss Trump (or the other candidates) and the election, check out this thread in the Current Events section:

Thank you Kevin!

No matter who runs a hotel in this spot...it's in an incredible location.

As mentioned previously, it is immediately adjacent to the forthcoming Breckenridge redevelopment, basically across the street from the Capitol & only a half-mile north of Dirty Sixth.

It could be wayyyyy better. But all things considered, given how awful Trump buildings can be, this would also be significantly worse.

It looks like a hotel. I don't think we can take those renderings to the bank. One of them is around 23-stories and the other is 27-stories. The WSJ article had information that it would be 33-stories. My favorite part of that investment brochure was the picture of the U.S. passport. That's what it's really about.

Not a bad design, though it could have been better.

I really dislike Austin's penchant for placing it's most dull and even ugliest buildings in the most prominent of places, namely along the riverfront and interstate where there is little chance of them being hidden from view.

I don't mind the color of the glass, it's blue, of course. And I actually really do like that overhang on the roof. It's a little bit reminiscent of the "wings" on the Monarch.

Not a fan of it, but I'm not sold on that being the actual design. It's not as tall as reported.
