So this tower is going to have a pretty significant blank side if I'm looking at the diagrams correctly?

The height starts at 100', not 0.

So it's still the same design, right? Because IMO the use of materials here is fantastic and a nice departure from all the glass we've been getting lately. It also plays well with all the earth tones in the capitol complex and surrounding state buildings, while adding height and modern flair to the area.

I kind of like it. I've said it before, but it sort of has a masculine Frank Lloyd Wright kind of look to it.

Kind of like the Wright office building in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, on steroids.

And the First Pasadena State Bank Building in Pasadena, Texas, which they actually imploded in July, which breaks my heart. It was one of the coolest buildings in Texas.

I don't know. This was only a one year extension to a previously approved site plan that finally expires in July 2020. If they don't start work by then, they will have to go through the whole site plan process again. I don't recall any information about financing or start of construction previously. The signs point to them having trouble finding enough equity to move forward. I guess we will see.

I don't know any of the details, but have heard repeatedly that this one is a done deal. No idea why the delay, though. Or, honestly, what the actual timeline is.

I hope this never comes to fruition. It is the lipstick to the Marriott’s pig.

For what it's worth, I agree with you on both counts.

Oh good, I'm not the only one who doesn't like this Frankenstein looking building. I mean, I'm tired of boring rectangular highrises, but this has too many elements that don't combine in a cohesive way.
Maybe I'd like it more if the ground to roof windowless side was covered in glass. As is, it looks like an exposed elevator shaft.

They are a few years old, but they are for the approved and released site plan.

I'm going to go ahead and say that this project will be the first victim of the Pandemic Recession. This project has been around in various forms since before the Great Recession, and during the ensuing 11 years it was never built. So I think it's a safe bet that a five star hotel won't be breaking ground any time soon at this site.

This one is definitely worth following. I'd normally agree that it'd be one of the first casualties of the pandemic, but my GM was particularly sure about it when we talked about it, pre-COVID. There was a lot of corporate (rather than franchisor) oomph behind it at the time. Obviously that may not mean much given our current circumstances but I think it's a stickier project than its prior history would suggest.

YMMV, of course.

EDIT: I also think the "five star hotel" description may not be entirely apt, but from what I've heard it's definitely a luxury brand.
