Not sure if this is the appropriate thread or not, but the Shady Grove on Barton Springs has permanently closed. https://austin.eater.com/2020/5/11/2...manent-closing

This one hurts

Yeah it sure does.
My late DIL started working there about 21 years ago. She bounced between the Grove and nearby Chuy’s for 14 years before she passed away 7 years ago.

I live on 183 north near Cedar Park but am going to take my 7 yr old son on a drive further south to try to get the maximum exposure (and a trip to Dairy Queen, too); thinking either the soccer fields at 51st and Guad or just go ahead and do Auditorium Shores.

The Statesman is reporting from the Thunderbirds that they're postponing the flight until 3:40 because of the weather.

Quote:
Due to forecasted inclement weather, the Texas flyover start times have been delayed 1 hour!

Updated times below:

San Antonio - 2:20 P.M. (CDT) and last approximately 30 minutes.

Austin - 3:40 P.M. (CDT) and last approximately 25 minutes.

I went to Sue Patrick's on Burnet Rd to pick up some cloth face masks this morning, they have a big if not huge selection so if anyone is looking for some, I recommend going there, anyway, took Mopac from Round Rock to 45th then Burnet to Lamar, to Ben White to I35 north so I could check out the progress downtown. I've said it before, for those of you who see downtown every day, it must seems like a snail's pace. The last time I was downtown, the Alexan was just a rendering....yes its been that long. The north end of the Domain looks cool approaching from Mopac. Hopping on Lamar just passed Seton Hospital, good glory it is so lush! There are apartments way up on top of the hills and forests, amazing, then downtown peeks in and out of view until your in it. Gorgious! except for a certain crown, sorry guys, it still looks awful. Crossed the river, Lamar is quite interesting all the way to 71. I think its on par with SOCO. Saw the homeless camps under the overpasses along Ben White. Heading north on 35 around noon, enjoyed the considerably light traffic and the terrific view of downtown. The buildings under construction are having quite the impact on the skyline. The Quincy adding to the density, and to any nay sayers, I LOVE the impact the Fairmont has on the northern approach. Its an awesome building imo. The Alexan also is making a huge impact. Its so weird seeing that tall of a building so far north. I've lived in and around Austin for the last 38 years, but due to my infrequent trips to downtown, I feel like I get to see with with fresh eyes each time I drive there. And I get blown away every time. Pictures are awesome, but nothing beats being there.

+1, Genral. I miss working downtown and seeing the incremental progress of stuff. I've been making up excuses to take my 7 yr old (who rolls his eyes the whole time) on long detours downtown to get a glimpse or two over the last few months. It's really monumental -- even in The Times of COVID.

While I was sitting in my car, about a dozen raindrops hit my windshield. Why is it when I make a mistake at work, shit hits the fan and weather forcasters seem to escape unscathed for theirs??

Despite what many of us think about 9-1-1 Lonestar, it still made it in the top 15 highest rated broadcasted programs for the 2019 -2020 season coming in at 10th. I guess the rest of the country is intrigued enough to tune in. I thought it was going to bomb in the ratings. I'm kind of glad it didn't.

Looking at everything under construction and assuming every somewhat reasonable proposal gets built, the Frost Tower will be tied for 18th tallest in Austin. Just 12 years ago, it was the tallest in the city.

The downtown and Domain tower owners should have a handshake agreement to light up their buildings when there's a local event that would bring national video or photography coverage, i.e Austin FC home game, COTA events, fests, etc

I don't care if this is the off topic thread. Any more political posts will result in a suspension with no polite PM warning. Go to the Skybar section or another forum.

Well, what with recent events, be careful about how those buildings get lit up.

Seriously, the skyline at night might as well just be black & white. Seemd the high rises could do a lot better with different color schemes.
