That sure is a nice space!

Technically just out of the Exchange, but there is a giant mural going up right now on the Garrick Centre/Marlborough annex where the pool is. Should really help to brighten up that corner, another piece in making the Downtown-Exchange (AT) connection more pleasant.

Does anyone know what the deal is with the construction at the Electric Railway Chambers? I've walked by it so many times this summer and I never see any workers. Seems like they've done nothing other than continue to move a single ladder around the building.

It would be nice to see the building that houses Antiques & Funk get an overhaul, it looks shabby as hell. Or even better, a replacement.

Don't know if this has come up already, but there's a serious proposal for redeveloping the Great-West Metal co. property between Waterfront, Alexander, and Pacific. The concept would keep the old and grand section of the building (facing Alexander) and demolish the rest for some midrise residential complex set among a mess of "port cocheres" and parking aisles, tunnels... Basically, bringing Railside's Nordic housing project-inspired theme to the Exchange District. Oh and pitched rooflines and lots of black... which should all be enough to give away who the design firm is. Will be interesting to see if this one goes ahead.

546 are the architects and RNDSQR out of Calgary the developer?

Agreed, maybe someone should just glue a bunch of logs on the facade.

Ha, I remember that.

I also remember the ill-fated Saddlery Lofts condo proposal from about 15 years ago that entailed building a goofy looking addition on top of the existing structure. It was one of the first downtown condo proposals of this century... but sadly I can't seem to find a picture of it anywhere online.

Antiques and Funk is fine. It's a fun, visually interesting piece of the Exchange District streetscape.

If it got replaced with some offices, for instance, it would worsen the area, not improve it.

Let's not go overboard: Having some shabby and lower-rent buildings is important for the vitality of the area.

pitched rooflines would say 2Architecture to me. doesn't 546 specialize in flat rooflines (for their "bunch of stacked shipping containers" aesthetic)?

I take your point but this building looks flat out run down. If it's going to stay, can it at least not look semi-abandoned?

I suspect it would have ended up looking a lot different had it actually proceeded. A new 2019 take on something like that could be quite nice.
