So the pieces are stuck on the pier because of weight limits to transport it along a particular stretch of road, right? I find that so crazy given how much steel must get to this site every day! I guess they might have to helicopter it in, or does that sound crazy?

No they will reinforce the roadway. The pieces are not on the pier, they are in the eastern yards. The road in question is the bridge that crosses the railyard over 11th avenue.

There are other step wells in India but the Chand Baori one is the most famous.

They are designed to capture water from the Monsoon rains and store it for the dry season.
Here are some others:

The pieces are in the WESTERN yards ... the current construction of the towers and Vessel itself are over the Eastern yards.

zert - if you look at the first huge photo on the march 27 post you can see the pieces of the vessel sitting in the railyard on the bottom left. they basically have to haul them over 11th avenue to the site.

Would love to see this site in person. It is so massive. Is this the largest construction project in the hemisphere?

This is one of those sculptures that needs to be seen in person.

People weren't all that sold on the Statue of Liberty, but look what it's become.
