I wouldn't say it's a sad excuse for an arena but we agree that the seats aren't comfy so they obviously cut corners there but ever since it was built we've had countless big shows there, many of which i've enjoyed. Had we kept the Memorial Arena, none of those shows would have come here

The arena was built at a good time and ended up being a bargain. Ideally it would have been a bit larger and a bit spiffier, but since the CoV was acting on its own that wasn't going to happen. As is, it's not bad. Better than average for similar venues in similar markets.

If it had been officially Greater Victoria's arena (instead of unofficially) then it surely would have been a bit larger and a bit spiffier, but also in a non-downtown location.

Looks decent in this pic, except for the grubbiness and exposed hardware on the roof:

Check out the aerial of the Bowker project in Oak Bay:

Definitely an angle we don't see very often, looking back (westward) toward the hospital like that.

It won't let me view photos because I don't have an instagram account.

Regarding the arena. It's way to small for the region. Alan Lowe really did a disservice to Victoria by building it. I imagine in the future as the population continues to grow we will get a proper sized facility.

I posted this photo also on the Found City photo thread that Zoomer started tonight but thought I would share it here too.

Crazy! It looks like you took this somewhere down the lazy river that Victoria never had - great shot GS.

That is a great shot of the Gorge. Can't wait for the day 50 years from now when the blah grey panels at the top of Yates on Yates get replaced.

My photo of the Gorge was selected to Explore on Flickr. I always get enjoyment when my photos get put on Explore. 9 of my photos have been put on Explore now.

This is a photo I took out of my truck window while at a red light at Hillside and Douglas.

Here's a look at some of the development going on in Langford. This view is from the Triple Crown project - https://triple-crown.ca/views/

There's been so much development in Langford over the past few years I can't even get my bearings in that picture starting with the lake

I was going to say the same thing. Although the mean streets of Langford have always seemed unfamiliar to me. If you still don't know your way around by retirement age then you probably never will.

I was expecting to see evidence of the new Y on the other side of the lake there? So either I'm way off or maybe it's out of frame a bit?

I'm assuming that's Langford Lake and Westhills behind it. I keep seeing investment ads on Facebook for high rise developments on Langford.

Langford Lake's a lot bigger so I ruled it out pretty quick so then I figured it might be Glen Lake but now I think it's Florence Lake so I believe we're looking at Bear Mountain in the background

Are you sure about that? I'm clueless about Langford but I thought Bear Mountain would be behind the camera.

Okay, you're right, it must be Florence Lake, but then that would put Bear Mountain to the right, right?

Yeah that's Florence lake. Costco is just off camera to the right, and the newer road up to Bear Mtn. runs past the development seen on the left.
The TC highway is immediately below the bottom of the photo. The new maritime museum will be in the clearing on the right.

I wonder how many of those trees on Bear/Skirt Mtn. will survive the near future, and I wonder how the water quality of Florence Lake will change!

That's true. It's not very tall. Barely a mountain.

Here's a nice pic of HP1...
