Now if we have any posters on SSP from Nunavut I'd be really impressed.

That's hilarious.

I still like how A.) everyone is apparently an expert on what star athletes want, and B.) how apparently all star athletes want the same things.

Yeah, Saint John was very nice but really fishy smelling, downtown, on the days I was there. I remember a few victorian street-walls that impressed me there. Damn, I need to borrow a scanner, I have lots of pics from that trip.

Maybe it means that every response denounces someone else as a racist.

Dude 1: Man, we've had some rough weather lately.
Dude 2: Why do you hate white people so much?

We actually have a couple, but they don't live there full time. One was living in Iqaluit a few years back as part of his university programme, and another is based in Alberta but works extensively in the Arctic. There are a few people from NWT and Yukon at SSC, as well.

Just remember to pronounce it correctly. It isn't "NUN-uh-vut", it is "NOON-ah-VOOT"

My pronunciation is somewhere in between. It's like your second one, except the double Os are like in "foot", rather than "loot".

I know, which is why it bothers me when so many people pronounce it the wrong way. Same with Iqaluit: it isn't "ih-KAL-lou-it", it is "eek-KHAL-lou-eat"; Inuit is "EE-noo-eat" not "IN-you-it"; people from Nunavut are not "NUN-ah-vut-ers", they are "NOON-ah-VEE-mee-yoot" (Nunavimmiut). We're using less fun alternatives!! The language is called "ee-NOOK-tea-toot", but people pronounce it "ih-NUHK-tih-tut".

They have three vowels, "ah" (a), "ee" (i), and "oo" (u). When a vowel is doubled, it is pronounced longer.

I think most Canadians pronounce it "noon-a-vut". Yeah, we're kind of bastardizing their native language but that kind of thing happens all the time in Canada given our different languages. The way we pronounce all of Windsor's French street names would make a true Frenchman run for the hills (not that there are any around here to run to).

Anyone ever post a reply to a thread only to discover yours is the last one posted? Happens to me all the time. I am not one to "bump".
