The flat top would have been more acceptable if the tower had a tapered, stepped back appearance (see Steinway or even 270 Park). But as a straight, boxy building, it has an overly tall appearance, as if something is missing or forgotten. It's tall, and the facade is nice, but not what I would expect on this skyline.

can someone tell me whats up with the mismatched glass? Or is it simply the protective blue film hasn't been removed on some of the glass? not sure if this has been asked before but I can't imagine it hasn't.

From some angles, I've gotten used to this with the skip attached. When that is removed, it'll be even more skinny.

^ Good point. I wonder what the sq footage is of the entire skip assembly, imagined with floors. It's gotta be close to a mid-rise in and of itself!

Beautiful juxtaposition of old and new... until some greedy big-name developer decides to tear down the prewar and build another supertall in its place.

It’s landmarked. But even if it weren’t, there are no air rights to transfer to the site for a supertall. That’s the thing about the supertalls along 57th, they have sucked up available air rights. The lower buildings will remain lower forever.

Nordstrom also expands into neighboring buildings.
