The thing that bugs me is that one has to go through the master bath to get to the closet. Just... not ok.

That's the case in lots of homes.

I know. The Independent has quite a few floor plans that do that, too. Still not ok.
But that's just, like, my opinion, man!

I don’t see the problem. Why isn’t it ok?

Hell, I think master bathrooms are gross. The convenience is nice, but I don't want that 10 feet from my pillow.

My brother's house is the same way. Big closet, but you have to go through the bathroom to get to it. I think it's a bad idea. Overflown toilet? Yuck. The moisture and mold possibilities. And then if someone's using the restroom you can't access the closet, say in the morning.

The toilet is typically in it's own little throne room.

That doesn't matter when the king's chamber floods.

Ugh. I remember the past plumbing snafus that would flood my parents' closet. Not fun.

I mean, even if the bathroom isn't attached to the master bedroom, it's going to be somewhere close so if it floods it's bound to get in there anyway.

It could be in its own little house out in the backyard.

Is it the toilet? We designed our toilet in the master bath in its own attached “water closet”, with a bidet.

The closet is through the vanity, shower area, but not necessarily close to the water closet. I see this done a lot in town, to save space. Another example, we designed the master tub inside the shower, making it one big wet room.

Friends who visit us from the burbs, think it’s weird, but in the city, you have to squeeze. I dig it.

Our master bathroom has his & her walk in closets. Never has flooded in 23 years.

No problems with moisture or mildew/mold. There's an exhaust fan in the "throne" room and one in the main bath area - both vented to the outside.
Plus there is sliding window above the jetted tub for good cross ventilation.

Don't know if those high rise bathrooms have exhaust fans that ventilate to the outside.

That's about the same as my bathroom on a high floor of one of these highrises. An exhaust fan above the toilet, and then a sliding window above the jetted tub.

That's hilarious lol!

These type of bathrooms are very compartmentalized. As others have said the facility is in a seperate ventilated space with the bath and shower in another. The sink area is more like a vanity, fairly spacious depending on how it's designed, the closet is large and seperated and doesn't get moisture. All in all its not a bad design considering. Most of us change in the bathroom or dress after a shower so having the closet nearby is convenient.

After looking at the master bathroom more closely, I can see that the bath is not separated but is part of the main area with the sink/vanity area. Even so, if the room is well ventilated along with the closet then it shouldn't be an issue. I'd actually create a separated closed area for the bath/shower rather than have it open like that.

Didn't notice the bedroom without windows. Aside from being an idea that it's ok for a $1.3M home to have a cave bedroom, aren't there building codes prohibiting such a thing?
Re. walk-in closet behind a bath - it's not the risk of mold or flooding that bothers me. It's the idea that a room is only accessible through a "non-public" space. E.g., it's ok to have to walk to another room through the living room, as there's no expectation of privacy in the living room. But it's not ok to have the only access to a room be through a space where one routinely expects privacy and locked doors.

It's a master bath, not really a high traffic area. Unless you're shy around your spouse, it's typically not an issue.
