Yesterday, I drove past the zoo, and low and behold, the old city pound is being demolished. I don't know who owns the property but I would like to know what they plan on doing with this lot. Hopefully not more parking for the zoo. I think a ten story apartment complex similar to the Vistana would be great. Who wouldn't want to live in a park? Easy access to the airport and downtown. I just wonder if the land is zone for the park.
Its good to see the old pound gone. Who on earth thought it would be a great idea to build a dog pound next to a tourist attraction like the zoo.
In fact as a child, I didn't like going to the zoo or riding the sky ride, because of that a horrible place.
Don't get me started on the sky ride, another mistake removing a great attraction.

It was a great attraction, I was shocked when I came back to SA in 2003 and it was gone. Maybe some day they can bring back, and possibly even extend it into downtown somehow...

The zoo does need more parking though, because at present you either have to park under an overpass or walk 6 miles. I'm not so sure residential would work there given all the zoo traffic in that area. Then again, it works in NYC

I think the zoo should keep that land for further expansion of the chupacabra exhibit; every mangey coyote will be kept there for everyone to see.
I don't see why Ripleys doesn't go for the full effect as they have in other cities and add an aquarium. If nothing else, I think that would be a perfect spot for it. They're not leaving Alamo Plaza anytime soon and it would just give another reason to have a streetcar from DT/zoo and not clog up 281/St. Marys on the weekends.
The Skyride was great, also the horse rides at the stables across from the driving range. The Golf Course is what should've been removed; save 2/3 for a park, land along the river for trails, extend River Rd. neighborhood a couple more blocks for new housing and a couple of new blocks along the southeast corner of the golf course. I know I am dreaming but at least we can wait and see what the Lone Star Jeep/Chrysler lot turns into although with the HDRC naming "Automobile Row" Historically signicificant, it looks like all we can hope for is more decaying buildings.
Check out the HDRC on 1130 Broadway, its about page 270 or so.
So pretty much we can gather that if a building is old, and they can find "any history" of that building, and there are similar old buildings nearby, it is historic.
So in 30 years, every car dealership on 10 will be historic

Don't get me wrong, it would be a nice building if it were cleaned up and re-used. I saw code enforcement over there a few days ago. Hopefully something is done to clean up all these old buildings.

$8.5 million dollar new construction permit has been awarded to Zachry at 3201 E Houston - which is next to the AT&T Center...

Any ideas as to what this could be?

That would be the Freeman Coliseum. I assume this is part of the $10 million allocated for Freeman Coliseum from the venue tax.

In addition the AT&T center received $75 million and the adjacent rodeo grounds will get $15 million.

Maybe they could use the money to build a new sky ride for the fairgrounds at the Rodeo.

Similiar to the Texas State Fair up in Dallas. They have a sky ride that is only used once a year during the fair.

The phrase "NEW CONSTRUCTION" doesn't have to mean that they're adding something new? Can you rehab/renovate under that permit?

Does any one know the status of this development (or any of the developments around 281 and Stone Oak/TPC Pkwy)? I know that Park Place was listed to be completed last year, and I have not seen anything done on Tacara.

I say the city should create ULRC (Undeveloped Land Review Commision)that would put restrictions and hurdles up for developers in the remaining land in Bexar County. Perhaps it might level the playing field for development in the rest of the city. At least it would open up other areas of town to at least cluster new buildings, if not in DT (San Pedro/410, Med Center, 10/410)
Because 1604/281? whats next? Bulverde? Boerne? Austin?
I would probably be okay with this if it were a little more dense up there, and at least they built up. It wouldn't be questioned so much if SA did truly have a "2nd DT." But yeah, why not on top of a certain bus station DT?

I don't know if it has been discussed on here before but does anyone know what is being built off of 410/Military by Potranco. That project had been going on for what seems like years now. Passed by there earlier today and saw that there's another building under construction. It looks to be at least four stories high.

The NSA is leasing and renovating the old Sony Plant. They are at Lackland now, but will move there once it is complete. I think they're also building a data center near there.
