I totally agree.

I meant to put some perspective on this by posting Boullées drawings from the late 18th century. Still pretty futuristic IMO. I think this thread reflects a very narrow view of what is futuristic.

Here are some more of Boullée:

I firmly belive than deconstructivism will date itself very soon. It just isn't that shocking anymore, and with that gone, its reason for existance goes away as well. Most deconstructivists are media whores, which will only quicken the abandonment of the style.
Wait, you don't think the Transamerica and Renaissance Center looked dated? Really?

Transamerica looks dated, imo. I don't know much about Renaissance, but it's in that catagory with the rest of the round glass buildings. Probably because it isn't as unique and not as decorated, it isn't as dated as Transamerica. But Transamerica is DEFINATELY dated, imo.

But you have to remember that most buildings of a certain period, after a while, will look dated and everybody will be calling for them to come down. But if you wait long enough, people start to appreciate what was dated and soon those ugly, dated buildings are looked at in a whole new light and thought of as architectural treasures. The Lever House comes to mind as does pretty much all Art Deco which was seen as dated and hideous by mid-century. It was in the late sixties, early seventies when deco was re-discovered.

For me, I like my "futuristic" buildings to be restrained, so they age well. Too out-there, and they'll become dated very quickly.

One of my favorites is right here at home: Pier 1 Place, the world headquarters of Pier 1 Imports in downtown Fort Worth, Texas. It's like Art Deco from the year 3000:

Edit: And you gotta love that night lighting:

A few more for Detroit that I think could be called "futuristic":

Coleman A. Young Community Center - 1981

Kresge-Ford Building, College for Creative Studies - 1975

Is Habitat considered a "prestige" residence? How does it compare pricewise?

Yes, they are pricy, as they offer proximity to downtown and views to downtown and old port.

I produced a architectural show for TV, and we did a piece on habitat 67, you will find it here. It was fun to do architecture, I hope I can get funding to do more...

Habitat and the Biosphere are about 1 km apart, and the Olympic Stadium is outside the downtown area, a 15 minute subway ride from downtown.

My choice over the Lloyds copy would be the Crystal Palace.
