To my mind, to make the gondola work, the city will have to abandon its idea of the downtown circulator. If the gondola is going to be part of a public transit network (which seems to be the way it's being sold), to me, there's really no point in building another LRT line across the river, duplicating the line that already exists, AND having it and the proposed gondola compete.
I have no problem with a train down Whyte (it's an extremely well-used corridor, based on the number of buses that go through every hour) from the UofA all the way to Bonnie Doon and even Mill Woods, but drop the idea of having it connect from the university to downtown.
By all means, if the gondola is viable, let them have a go. Although, like Regina Boi, I'm not convinced yet.
