So much of respectful and open debate on this thread. I will keep my thoughts and views to myself going forward.
Valid reservations about this project. Noted, however, that my typical bus ride is twice as long as the proposed gondola. The bike path / lookout infrastructure you posted is being pondered by the Walterdale and just west of the High Level.

I've taken the gondola on Chongqing, it was built in 1986 and still well used by locals when I was there in 2005. Those gondolas are still in operation today.

To my mind, to make the gondola work, the city will have to abandon its idea of the downtown circulator. If the gondola is going to be part of a public transit network (which seems to be the way it's being sold), to me, there's really no point in building another LRT line across the river, duplicating the line that already exists, AND having it and the proposed gondola compete.

I have no problem with a train down Whyte (it's an extremely well-used corridor, based on the number of buses that go through every hour) from the UofA all the way to Bonnie Doon and even Mill Woods, but drop the idea of having it connect from the university to downtown.

By all means, if the gondola is viable, let them have a go. Although, like Regina Boi, I'm not convinced yet.

End of an era? Progressive mayors in Calgary and Edmonton to make their exits
There's a palpable desire in Edmonton and Calgary for change — at least according to the small-government types aiming to take over at city hall

Both Mayors will be wooed by the Federal NDP, Liberals and Conservatives as a candidate for the House of Commons or nominee for appointment to the Senate. Maybe some corporations or government agency will want them on the Board. Personally I think Iveson would make a great Senator for Alberta.

It's official - Amarjeet Sohi is running for Mayor.
I have a tough choice between Sohi and Watson.

I like Sohi given he is well-versed in how Council works to get things done and how municipalities interface with the Feds (i.e. grant money).

A little Mandel, a little Iveson and a little Anne McLellan.

Amarjeet Sohi...

"If you are the minister in charge of Canada’s energy sector (natural resources) at the time the federal Liberals are doing everything in their power to shut down Alberta’s oil and gas sector, and you don’t stand up better and louder than Sohi did, Edmontonians should never vote for you again — ever — even for president of the southside Rotary club."

Mr Sohi sold out Edmonton. Hes looking for a pension. He is neither capable or skilled to run Edmonton.

Many folks may remember, Mr. Sohi took a leave of absence to run as a Liberal MP, while remaining as a City Councilor. When he won, he took a $46,000 severance pay from the taxpayers of Edmonton, on his way to Ottawa. Then he lost his seat with the liberals....Now he wants to be Mayor lmao.

'If you can’t find money to spray for mosquitoes, kill dandelions and cut the grass in parks, but you’re in favour of continuing to build an unneeded $2.7-billion LRT extension from the west end to downtown, then your priorities are too upside down to get my vote'

I don't agree with the LRT comment from Lorne...we need this. Even though the design could and should have been better. Lorne is a dinosaur regarding this subject.

I suspect that he will get in with a significant amount of the vote.

Curious to see if Watson beats Oshry or not for second.

Mr. Nickel's failed UCP nomination is even funnier.

That's a very bold statement considering he was a (Liberal) MP who screwed Edmonton and Lost his seat in Edmonton with his own constituents. The temperature on most other sites and papers don't have Sohi even coming close. Actually its very hostile toward Sohi.

Mike Nickel.....
