Notice in Leader Post

I don't think anyone's mentioned this, but back in the February 5th edition of the Leader Post (page E4) there was a public notice from CP stating that as of Feb. 1st they had applied to the Canadian Transportation Agency to relocate their intermodal operations to the Global Transportation Hub. There's alot of verbiage in the notice, and one of the items mentioned is that an Environmental Screening Report has already been prepared.

I'm not able to link (or scan) the notice...but it's definitely a good sign that the wheels are finally getting in motion on their relocation.

I suppose this comment could also be included in the Multi Purpose Facility thread as well...

An announcement will be coming today about CP's new rail yard at the GTH. Looking forward to this.

CANADIAN PACIFIC LATEST MAJOR TENANT AT GLOBAL TRANSPORTATION HUB

Quote:
Premier Brad Wall and Regina Mayor Pat Fiacco joined Canadian Pacific (CP) President and Chief Executive Officer Fred Green, as well as other dignitaries in officially unveiling the future home of CP's Intermodal Facility at the Global Transportation Hub (GTH).

The new facility will be located on a 124-hectare (about 300 acres) site adjacent to CP's main line between Regina and Moose Jaw. Initial construction is expected to start this summer with completion scheduled for late 2012.

"Today's announcement by Canadian Pacific is very important for the success of the Global Transportation Hub," Wall said. "The GTH and its transportation logistics advantage is going to contribute to Saskatchewan's growing profile in a world that needs energy security and food security."

They are at or near completion of the re-surfacing for the new rail spur from Grand Coulee to past the GTH to the east. It appears all they have left to do is lay ballast and place the ties and rail. As well upgrade the crossing at the Grand Coulee access road. Are there any plans showing what the yard layout is?

I would also like to say with the push-forward with the interchange at #1 I would say that an interchange at Dewdney (though not currently shown) 9th (Same as Dewdney) and the one at Hwy 11 shown on the plans, will be expedited quite fast. As well not just two lanes North to 11 but 4-Divided. If they have any foresight (which I hope they do) They will introduce these projects instead of waiting for a massive increase in traffic as is most likely to happen. Especially since Harbor Landing is already reaching McCarthy Blvd South Grid Road, and they didn't expect that to be so large so fast.

Just my two cents. I am currently living in Saskatoon and can already see a massive deficiency with the South Bridge Project (which will help inner city movement) BUT truck traffic on Hwy 16 will still be forced to squeeze through Ave C North and Idylwyld Freeway. A fix for this would be to expand Valley road interchange around west of the city and run straight north to Hwy 16.... Connecting also with Hwys 7 and 14. Now THAT would get trucks not stopping in Saskatoon out of the city mostly and not forcing them onto an already congested Circle North. As well a final step for that detour would be an interchange at Boychuck and Hwy 16.

Enough Ranting, I just hope that people can see that we really DO need these issues solved.

I haven't seen any plans, but I was talking to someone in the rail installation business a couple of weeks ago and they were anticipating being on site there in the near future.

There are definitely more announcements to come, but I do not believe this Walmart rumor for a minute.
