Let's zoom in

Why not look closer?

Why indeed not.

The Palm Jumeirah

This one is even better...

The World Islands

I like the insane ruler of Dubai.

I like the way he is insane.

Wow! All that undersea dredging must be catastrophic to the natural environment.

Every time I see those islands I cant help but wonder what will happen if we get any substantial sea level rise from global warming.

i can't see those islands lasting very long without intensive and costly efforts to maintain them.

Wrong. By the time those Islands are washed away, Water in New York City and LA would only be like a foot deep, Cities like NYC are raised above water, they dont build an entire city the same height as the water.

Um. Wrong, Again. Diggin land for a single skyscraper or a planned neighborhood is much more enviromentally friendly than dumping dirt into the ocean. The left over dirt would probably be used to cover landfills, and build massive parks over them.

Of couse, Dubai is wasteing millions of gallons of water to keep their plants green, theres another disaster right there.

I believe AltinD mentioned urban sprawl, which is a far greater evil against the environment committed by North Americans than anything the UAE could ever hope to accomplish.

As opposed to Phoenix?
If you're gonna bash something, that's fine. But at least don't sound like a hypocrite in the process.

No I'm totaly against Phoenix's waste of water. People here use huge laws and its just wrong. Vegas, while the hotels use a lot, most of the city's homes dont have lawns.

Although, just look at Dubai. All the projects are cool and all, but dosnt the city get all its money from Oil? Obviously Oil will run out soon, would the city just become completly abandoned?

Suburban sprawl caused the inner city meltdowns that are painstakingly being reversed one block at a time. Certainly nothing to brag about.

I've lost track of how many times that argument has been proven wrong.

Those islands are 4m above sea level, more than mainland Dubai so the main part of the city will actually be fucked before they are.
