So we should vote on every road project? Everytime the City wants to do anything we should vote.

Exactly. Genuinely curious if anything would ever get a majority.

I think you meant " Genuinely curious if anything would ever get DONE."

And every road project is the same as P&M, come on man, give your head a shake!

That’s true. Most cost orders of magnitudes more than p&m.

P&M was just another thing on social media in the age of outrage culture. Most people have no clue how it would actually affect them. Or anyone really. Just like most people have no clue when voting besides who's popular.

They just heard that it will possibly slow down there drive.

Of all the stuff to vote on, P&M was chosen. Not spending 100's of millions on transit, or suburban expressways, or new police stations or fire stations. But one intersection downtown was chosen.

If this is going to turn into a 'open Portage and Main debate', could it maybe be continued in the P&M thread?

So are the new bus stop signs only going places that BLUE stops at? All the other affected stops that I've seen with route changes due to RT just updated the stickers on old signs.

Not only places the BLUE stops at. The old signs on Pembina south of Jubilee have all been replaced by the new blue-coloured signs.

I guess with the current social distance restrictions there will not be any grand opening party or ribbon cutting to kick off the new route on Sunday Morning?

Taking the dog for a walk the last couple days along the RT route, I noticed the frequency of the buses seems to live up to what they claim. I saw a number of buses heading either direction every couple minutes. The average ocupancy was about 1 person per bus. This was at 10:00am this morning during a pandemic of course, not to be taken as a refection of the system that has been in place for 36 hours.

It does seem like the stations are a bit overbuilt though. They look like they could have 50 people at each station all adhearing to social distancing guidelines without issue.

You were so "spot on" as they say.

In typical Winnipeg fashion. Hoards of people complaining on social media about the transitway opening as scheduled. Like complaining because something was done on time and open on schedule? ffs.. And you know if it was delayed they would also be complaining.

I really don't get why people are complaining. It's not like this is some huge new expense on top of the existing system. It's just a reorganization of the bus service that already existed. If anything this is the ideal time to open it, so that any kinks can be worked out before large numbers of people start using it.

Future of transit after pandemic

I'm curious to hear what people think about what transit use will look like once social distancing is no longer being implemented.

I imagine anxiety over being in a crowded public space like a bus is going to effect the amount of people using buses once this pandemic ends

It'll eventually get back to the same, but likely will be a year before then. U of M is already planning for online-only classes for Fall semester, so likely won't see much increased use of the transitway this fall.
